A couple contemplating marriage or an already married couple may wish to have a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement. This allows them to identify and classify their assets. These agreements may also discuss the distribution of assets and debts in the event of a divorce. Additionally, these agreements can be very effective as estate planning tools.
The process of legal separation is the same as that of divorce in Wisconsin. Ultimately, all your assets and debts will be divided. If you have children, the court will issue legal custody, placement and child support orders. In this case, the legal standard for separation is that the marriage is "broken" as opposed to "irretrievably broken, " which is the legal standard for divorce.

Attorney Burghardt is an excellent family law expert and I couldn’t have been more pleased with her work navigating my extremely difficult divorce. I had a previous attorney from a large specialty law firm (hint: they advertise to men) who lacked follow through and attention to detail. Lindsey Burghardt was a superb family attorney. She helped turn a traumatic experience into smooth sailing. I truly appreciated her candor and professionalism. Attorney McChrystal has ruined my family and any chance of reunification. She refuses to communicate. She has no compassion or respect for anyone in my family especially my children. She charges exorbitant amounts of money. She has dragged out our divorce for over a year. If you read her bio on their website it is filled with overinflated lies. My experience has been just awful and I would recommend that you stay as far away from this firm and Kate McChrystal as possible!

Being involved with Kate as the respondent in my divorce case, I can tell you that she never seemed to put the welfare of our family or our children before her client. The overall communication was very poor right from the start putting my marriage at further risk than it already was. I believe Kate is a great lawyer if you want to win, but when it comes to keeping your family together I can't say she would be my first pick.

Kate Delorenzo was assigned as the Special Master in my divorce proceedings to oversee decisions regarding our children when my ex-husband and I could not come to agreement.
