Services
Dr. Weiss pursued medicine after earning a degree in mathematics at MIT. At MIT he conducted research with a medical focus and it soon became apparent to him that medicine, not mathematics, was the more interesting discipline. In the ensuing decades, his love of medicine drives his practice to provide excellent patient-care.

Why is treatment so important? An Anxiety Disorder can significantly interfere with the enjoyment and functioning of life. Anxieties can range from a general and pervasive sense of worry or unease (Generalized Anxiety Disorder or "GAD, ") to something very specific and completely disabling, like the inability to leave the house (Agoraphobia).

It turns out the list of clinical psychiatrists in Austin is fairly short. I reached out to a few different offices in the area and Psychiatry Austin was the quickest and friendliest to respond. On my first visit it was clear that this is not some massive healthcare conglomerate with multiple levels of staff and a hustling bustling office...it's Chris the pleasant and responsive office manager and Dr. Weiss, whom I came to quickly realize is the type of person who has truly dedicated his career to improving the mental health of his patients.

I am so happy that I trusted the latest 2019-2020 reviews for this Doctor because as Michael G. said: "Dr. Weiss is the man!" The older reviews from 2016 seemed very outdated and in my experience, they were the complete opposite of how my time went there.
Now let me tell you a little about my experience during my visit to Psychiatry Austin. As soon as I walked in, Chris at the front desk greeted me and was very helpful with getting my insurance information in order. Awesome! Dr. Weiss is the man! Thank you so much for the excellent service! There really isn't much more for me to say, from my first moment at the office, to my most recent visit, I can say that DR Weiss has been nothing less than exceptional. I feel cared for and taken care of during every step of my visit. Wonderful!

Thank you Dr. Weiss & Psychiatry Austin for the really good care. I came to Dr. Weiss a few years ago and with his guidance I have improved immensely. I highly recommend Dr. Weiss. I see the reviews and would like to offer up that he is extremely thorough and direct. He focuses on a solution and not wasting time. For that I am very grateful.

The entire team at Psychiatry Austin is exceptional! Having an office manager and receptionist in the office ensures everything is streamlined, efficient, and fast. You are called back in a timely manner, there is always a smiling face greeting you, and paperwork is painless.
Dr. Weiss is an outstanding doctor, hands down the best I have seen for my ADD/ ADHD that I have had since I was a child. I will be honest most of my doctors treating this did not ask many questions, it was a quick check in to refill medication. Dr. Weiss gave me a reading list in my first appointment, to help me understand

Dr. Weiss has been nothing but understanding, I'm surprised by some of these negative reviews - my experience has been nothing but the opposite!
What I love about working with Dr. Weiss, is his ability to treat you like a human (his office staff is amazing too - Chris has been incredibly helpful). Not to mention his incredible knowledge of both the human body (he is a MD) and the mind.
When prescribing medication, he helped me understand what to expect and how we would be adjusting diseases in the future. As someone who asks a ton of questions before taking medication, he was more than

Words can't even describe how bad my experience with dr Weiss was. After an hour of waiting past my appointment time he finally called my name and said "what do you want?". He was extremely rude, clearly hates his job, the appointment itself lasted about 5 minutes and for 3 of those minutes he left his office without any explanation. He didn't look at me a single time throughout the appt, he asked the same question over and over and he honestly looked and acted drunk. Now I can't get an appointment anywhere else since he was the last person to prescribe me anything, I need

I give this place 2 stars, solely for the fact that they somehow managed to attract a psychiatric nurse practitioner, Ryann Rathbone. I came under her care while she was affiliated with Thriveworks Counselling. She is kind, thoughtful, and very thorough and respectful. I followed her to Psychiatry Austin because I am happy with her and do not wish to seek out a different provider as I have already established a relationship with Ryann. I cannot speak of Dr. Weiss or any of the other practitioners there, because I have not met with any of them, but I can say that the customer service is enough

I've held off on writing a review in case my mom was stuck with this guy for whatever reason. Fortunately, she's not. And we ended up finding a much better psychiatrist with proper bedside manners.
If filling out a lot of paperwork, waiting weeks to schedule an appointment, and being talked to in a condescending manner by an insensitive, poorly mannered psychiatrist is what you're looking for, then Dr. Weiss is your guy. He has a cold temperament, he did not treat my mom with basic dignity and respect. I personally took my mom to visit Dr. Weiss, and we both sat in the session

I wish I could use negative stars for my experience at this facility. I have never endured so much ineptitude and nonprofessional behavior. I submitted paperwork for my child to be considered for an appointment with dr weiss and was contacted back stating we met requirements and could make an appointment. I set an appointment, completed the 12 pages of paperwork requested, my husband and I took off work and we pulled my child out of school for the appointment. When we arrived we were told there was an issue; dr weiss does not see adolescents. This was concerning considering he reviewed the paperwork

Dr. Weiss is one of the best psychiatrists in the Austin area because of his training & experience in addiction, internal medicine & psychiatry. He is able to address medication issues with great skill. His office is well located on Bee Caves Road & there is adequate parking. Having been a clinician in Austin for over twenty years, I refer my clients to Dr. Weiss & recommend him without hesitation. Beth Larsen, LCSW

I have been very disappointed with this office.
Dr. Weiss is unprofessional and rude. At my first visit with him tried to bill me when he failed to show up to the appointment and had me sit at his desk as he spoke with me over the phone. He then tried to bill again for "phone consultation" for the same day.
The nurse practionioner is the only part of this office that is redeemable. The receptionist (crystal) is unresponsive, tries to bill for things that haven't happened, and scammed me. The most memorable example is still ongoing and I haven't been in since April. She told

The office staff was very kind and helpful, but Dr. Weiss was an absolute nightmare. I was seeing him to continue management of a condition I was diagnosed with in 2006 and have been on stable medication for since 2012. The only reason I even went to see him at all was because my insurance changed and my current doctor no longer accepted my plan--I wasn't looking for some complete re-evaluation of my case, I just needed a new prescription for the drugs I've been taking successfully for 4 years. Unfortunately, in addition to being 20 minutes late for my appointment (which, if it had been

Dr. Weiss is a great doctor, probably the best psychiatrist I've ever had. He is a good psychotherapist in addition to being an MD and will address psychological issues while he works to adjust your medication. Medication unfortunately, is not a magic bullet and Dr. Weiss does not profess to work miracles.
People don't usually seek help with mental health until their situation has become unbearable. By this point they may have said or done things that have damaged their self-esteem. This loss of self-esteem can lead to more bad behavior and it becomes a downward spiral. Medication

I want to start by saying that Dr. Weiss doesn't seem like a bad doctor. He seems to know a lot about his field and is well-qualified. This review is about my personal experience with him in office and not about his competency.
Dr. Weiss expressed very little interest in helping me other than making me feel nervous and upset during my appointments. We would discuss my medications and adjust them accordingly, but really never developed a relationship beyond that. He did recommend me to the IOP that really helped me learn coping skills for my anxiety disorder and I do thank him for that.

I have to vent here a bit, because this just needs to be addressed to the public as Dr. Weiss and his office are terrible at customer service and organization.
I had a family emergency, and tried to reason with the receptionist to allow me to reschedule without the stupid $100 rescheduling fee. That this was a family emergency and if they cared at all for their patients, they would not be trying to gouge your wallets like that.
Anyways, to avoid the stupid fee, I had to wait til the mid afternoon appt and then rush to North Dallas to see my brother-in- law in the hospital. I had to go to work

I have visited many psychiatrists before, and I'd have to say Dr. Weiss seems to be the most knowledgable one I've met. When I confronted my previous psychiatrists about a possible side effect from my medication they all said I was just stressed out, or that the side effect isn't shown to happen with the medication. Dr. Weiss was the first one to say that the side effects tested for this medication were outdated and then proceeded to give me various options that could fix my issue. I'm very grateful to have found a psychiatrist that actually takes the time to dig into his patients
