Smith Community Mental Health is a community mental health center committed to creating mental health and substance abuse programs and services designed by the needs of our Broward County client's and the community with which we collaborate. As a service oriented agency, our community focus guides the creation of specialty programs and allows the agency to enhance the spectrum of services delivered to special needs youth and families in Broward.

Smith and the provided therapist has brought great light at the end of the tunnel for my son whom faced many difficult health challenges and needed someone who actually cared and spent valuable time with him. I would recommend Smith to anyone with a child in need.
Services
Academic achievement is strongly linked to emotional and behavioral health, and for students who struggle with behavioral and emotional challenges, their academic performance can suffer. Some studies suggest that 12 to 30 percent of U.S. school-age children and youth experience at least moderate behavioral, social, or emotional problems.
Christina G. Smith Community Mental Health Foundation was created in memory of Dr. Christina G. Smith, a physician lost prematurely due to a tragedy. Dr. Smith's vision for the treatment of those with mental illness is the guiding force of C.G. Smith. Dr. Smith was born in the United States but spent her early childhood years in India where her father was a missionary.
In 2002, Ms. Correia-Kent co-founded and began co-directing the Christina G. Smith Community Mental Health Foundation. She founded the nonprofit organization with Donna Lavalle in memory of her friend and colleague Dr. Christina Smith, who lost her life tragically while providing services within a local hospital.
Bridging youth empowerment and academic excellence, C.G. Smith programs provide academic assistance and behavioral and emotional supports that help youth overcome their behavioral and emotional challenges and empower them to become healthy, happy and academically successful.

Our programs focus on youth between the ages of 5 to 21 who live in Broward County and need extra supports that address behavioral and emotional challenges as well as provide academic assistance.Through academic instruction and therapeutic respite, aftercare and summer programming, C.G Smith's programs address youth's academic needs and behavioral and emotional challenges in order for them to lead happy productive lives.
For youth who have serious emotional disturbances or are youth-at-risk, C.G. Smith offers the Peaceful Champions after-school and summer program. This year-round program is open for youth age 5 to 14 and has a focus on violence prevention and character-development through martial arts, mental self-defense and peaceful conflict resolution as a method of cognitive-behavioral therapy.

I would recommend Smiths to anyone with a child in need, one thinks it's crazy people that seek counsel, that is a misconception.
There are many things that happen in our lives and sometimes just a listening, attentive ear that's confidential helps us out.
So I say today Smiths does a great job, they are flexible and definitely gives a helping hand.

I'm going to file a lawsuit against this place. They've abused their powers in the most Inhumane ways. They are abusive towards the children in their aftercare program and bidding from being exposed by not allowing you to speak to your child.

Ive been with SCMH for about a year. In the beginning councling was going great with "Jenna" she was a little young to be councling me but I decided to give her a chance and we got along great. She opened my eyes to many obstacles and barriers. Then one day she told me she was leaving SCMH and that i would get a new councler. After a few weeks went by "Natasha" called me to set up an appointment. Natasha was very inspiring to me but our sessions were short lived after our 3rd session Natasha said I would be getting a new councler and that was back in September just before the hurricane hit Broward

The counselors at Smith Mental Health are a joke! Please don’t waste you and your children time with these counselors. They are unprofessional and do not show up after scheduling several sessions with them.

Called this place to get information for my son to have a behavioral evaluation and was immediately shot down because he was not 5 years old yet despite him turning 5 in two weeks. The lady on the phone didn't even try to help me in any way and made me feel she wanted nothing to do with me. Horrible treatment to a possible future patient. Take your children somewhere else.
