Mountaintop Waldorf community is one of children and families of all generations who experience belonging, love, joy, and growth. We meet the natural world with reverence to inspire, nurture, and protect childhood. Since 2007, Mountaintop has been offering families in the Mid-Hudson Valley Region an alternative for early childhood care that focuses on imaginative play, steady rhythms, and space for wonder.
Our programs are led by certified Waldorf educators and assistants who have years of experience in early childhood education and forest kindergarten programs. Services
Mountaintop School first opened in 2007 on a farm on Yerry Hill Road in Woodstock. Ms. Wendy had spent the past 11 years working as a kindergarten teacher at Mountain Laurel Waldorf School in New Paltz, and had a dream of creating her own school for children in the area where she lived. The school was a welcome addition to the Woodstock area, providing an alternative education for families who longed for outdoor programs and holistic education.
Our mornings begin outside, where we will spend most of our day. After everyone arrives and has a chance to play a bit, we gather together to sing good morning to our friends, good morning to the earth and the birds, to the sun and the trees. We sing songs and recite some seasonal verses. We wash hands and sit down together at the snack table.
Our application procedure is below. We are currently enrolling children for the 2021-22 school year and have limited space available. Please follow the steps below if you are interested in enrolling your child for next year. Submit an Admission/Enquiry Form so that we have a record of your information.
As a member of WECAN, Mountaintop Waldorf School is based on the anthroposophical teachings of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), founder of the global Waldorf School movement. Our school engages deeply with Steiner's continually relevant teachings on child and teacher development, community building and, above all, a healing education, which leads towards freedom.
Six sessions to discuss and examine our own attitudes around race, culture, upbringing, and power. Dev shared many resources; videos, books, articles, and podcasts to explore and examine. My grandson attended Mountaintop for several years. What a special place to begin schooling! The warmth of the people and the space and the land create a comfort and a safety that all young children need in order to be left for the day. The Waldorf programming allows for lots of free play to inspire imagination and uses nature to create a homey atmosphere. Wendy is a very wonderful head teacher and all of her staff is carefully chosen. It is a great choice for your little ones!
