The Mental Health Association in Delaware promotes improved mental well being for all individuals and families in Delaware through education, support, and advocacy. The Mental Health Association in Delaware (MHA) is a statewide, nonprofit organization founded in 1932 to promote mental health. MHA provides services throughout Delaware, and our focus is education, support and advocacy for mental health issues.

The Mental Health Association is an affiliate of Mental Health America and served for many years as a Community Outreach Partner for the National Institute of Mental Health. MHA was recognized by the NAACP Wilmington Chapter with the Healthcare Advocacy Award in 2019, and recognized as a "Healthy Delaware Hero" by Healthy Delaware in 2010.

The Mental Health Association in Delaware promotes improved mental well being for all individuals and families in Delaware through education, support and advocacy. Improve the community's understanding of mental health and the mind-body connection between mental and physical health.

Provide education and opportunities for individuals to identify early warning signs of mental illness and subsequently provide programs and an environment that supports recovery and improves resilience for these individuals.Assure that those who request information and need mental health care referral have confidential access to the appropriate information and know how to obtain care.
The BIPOC Wellness Group is a peer-led group for people of color. This trauma-informed group creates a supportive environment for people of color to connect over shared experiences, heal in community, and receive support.

The Depression and Anxiety Wellness Groups are peer-led groups for individuals experiencing depression (Clinical Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder, or Dysthymia) and/or anxiety (Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and/or specific phobias).
3. Is it run by a mental health professional? Most of our groups are peer-led, meaning that an individual who has been through the experience that the group is focused on (for example, an individual who has battled depression or lost a loved one to suicide) is trained to facilitate the group. The only exceptions are the SAM groups, which are run by mental health professionals.
In 1987, I was diagnosed with major depression. At that time, I was hospitalized as a nonfunctional person and was severely disabled. Now, fifteen years later, through diligent use of medication, therapy and support systems, I can share my story with you. In the fall of 2000, I moved to Delaware knowing no one in the immediate area.
The Master Your Stress presentations teach what stress is and how stress affects the body, mind, emotions and behavior. The presentations help the participants learn how to master their stress by learning the difference between good stress, acute stress and bad stress. The participants would learn how to engage their parasympathetic nervous system and understand how their sympathetic nervous system contributes to both wellbeing and dysfunction.
