As humans, we continually develop throughout our lives. Developmental psychology is concerned with the development of the human mind from infancy through adulthood. Developmental psychologists work to understand how cognitive, behavioral, environmental, and biological processes interact during the lifespan.

Within this context, Dr. Lawing provides a variety of psychological services to her offices in both states: Louisiana and Colorado, including the greater New Orleans, Denver, and Boulder areas. Services include forensic evaluations, psychological testing, psychotherapy, public safety evaluations, guest lectures, and consultation.
Services
Dr. Lawing's practice is currently full and she is not accepting new patients at this time. Please check back in Spring 2022 for openings. Dr. Lawing is a licensed psychologist in Louisiana (#1267) and Colorado (#5149) and can also practice psychology in other jurisdictions as part of PSYPACT.

Dr. Lawing has an Interjurisdictional Practice Certificate (IPC # 6350) which allows her to practice telepsychology in any state registered in the PSYPACT compact.Psychotherapy can be invaluable in helping individuals live healthier and happier lives. There are a variety of reasons why mental health services are sought, however, the underlying goal of psychotherapy is to effect positive change in a person's thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Couples therapy commonly deals with communication issues, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution, and/or infidelity. The goals of the Gottman Method include increasing closeness and friendship behaviors, addressing conflict productively, and building a life of shared meaning together. The Gottman Method involves customizing principles from the research to each couple's particular patterns and challenges.
Dr. Lawing is uniquely suited to provide a variety of forensic psychological services to attorneys, judges, and other agencies. In addition to providing expert forensic services in the two states in which she is licensed to practice psychology (Louisiana and Colorado), Dr. Lawing is also able to provide forensic evaluations across the nation in participating PSYPACT states.
The use of psychological consultants is increasingly recognized as a critical component of a successful legal strategy in cases involving mental health issues. Dr. Lawing's ability to translate complex psychological concepts into plain language provides a significant advantage in achieving a desired legal outcome.
Kathryn Lawing is a godsend to the abused, traumatized and neglected. Dr. Lawing's expertise, research and clinical practice has brought hope to families, enlightenment to the criminal justice system and enhanced the quality of life in our community. I am a clinical law professor at Loyola University School of Law.
