Vermiculite was a popular material used in attic insulation. It has a pebble-like material, is poured in attics and walls, and is light brown to gold in color. It was popular because it was lightweight and fire resistant. Although it technically does not consist of asbestos, mining in America and Canada resulted in natural contact with asbestos and resulted in the contamination of the product.
Prior to the start of any renovation or demolition project, all buildings must be surveyed and tested for the presence of asbestos containing materials. Quality surveys will identify all asbestos containing materials (ACM's) and reduce the likelyhood that your residence or commercial building will become contaminated during renovations.
