Mahnaz Zandi, DDS, MS, at Art of Periodontics in Los Angeles, is a highly skilled periodontist who understands the importance of considering her patients' overall health and well-being.
Dental implants are artificial roots that serve as a replacement for missing teeth. Research indicates that dental implants' biocompatible surfaces actually stimulate the required fusion with the bone. Once it has been achieved, the crown, bridge or whole tooth replacement can be fixed to the implant or implants to feel like natural teeth.
This procedure reinforces thin gums or fills in places where gums have receded. Grafted tissue, most often taken from the roof of the mouth, is stitched in place, adding tissue to the affected area. If you feel your teeth look too short and your smile is too gummy or your gums cover too much of some teeth while leaving the others the right length, crown lengthening might be the solution for you.
Several theories exist to explain the link between periodontal disease and heart disease. One theory is that oral bacteria can affect the heart when they enter the blood stream, attaching to fatty plaques in the coronary arteries (heart blood vessels) and contributing to clot formation. Blood clots can obstruct normal blood flow, restricting the amount of nutrients and oxygen required for the heart to function properly.

5 big fat stars! It would be hard to find a better Periodontist in California! I had chronic gum disease for over 15 years and did my best to manage it. In 2014, my awesome Dentist referred me to a specialist, Dr. Zandi. Some of my pockets were very deep and my bone loss substantial. She advised surgery. Dr. Zandi was tremendous in every aspect throughout my treatment in her office (implant placement). Her genuine concert and care for my well being made the entire process much more tolerable. I found it also very helpful that Dr. Zandi took the time and explained in detail each step of the treatment as she was doing it. Usually I don't write reviews, however I decided to write about Dr. Zandi. She is an amazing doctor with good hands. I never worried about my implant treatment at any time. She was always calm and gentle with great confidence. About four years ago I was very determined to find the best doctor for my first implant treatment. Genuine care! I'm very fortunate to have found Dr. Zandi. I have undergone 3 surgeries since September of 2016, (3 extractions, bone graph reconstruction on top and bottom). In the beginning I was a bit skeptical because she is so straight to the point. But let me just say after the first surgery, I gained 100 percent confidence in my periodontist. Not only is Dr. Zandi the best at what she does but she gives attention to detail and cares genuinely for my health and well being. You cannot put a price tag on that. My 1st experience with dr. Zandi was when she was a graduate student at USC dental School. She did my implant. 7 years later, it is amazing. You could NEVER tell I had one. My experience and results this time, out of being treated by Dr. Zandi, have been a miracle. The dental hygienist I was using and the dentist told me I needed gum surgery urgently if I wanted to save my teeth. I went to Dr. Zandi for a second opinion. She recommended first to do a deep cleaning. She did such a good job, that not only did she save my teeth, but she avoided surgery all together. I had 74% improvement in 6 weeks
