At Optik Birmingham, our state-of-the-art practice and optical shop is located minutes north of downtown Detroit. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Human Health from Albion College in Michigan, Dr. Ales earned his medical degree in optometry from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Known for his artistic sensibility and for having cultivated one of the most encyclopedic collections of contemporary and vintage eyewear in the United States, Dr. Ales' greatest pleasure is bringing the latest advances in ocular health and vision care to his patients.

Ptosis is a drooping or falling of the upper eyelids. Although unnoticeable most of the time, those sleepy-looking eyes or slightly saggy upper eyelids can become severe enough to. When we see color, our eyes perceive various wavelengths of light. Our eyes contain two types of cells or photoreceptors that allow us to process light and distinguish colors.
A nasty sounding word, isn't it? Astigmatism is the leading refractive cause for needing glasses. The eye is an optical system. A perfectly spherical eye has no astigmatism, but most people do have some amount. A small amount of astigmatism can create some night driving and far vision blur. What is it?

Best place for a one stop shop for eyeglasses. Unlike most eyeglass stores where you have to fumble through piles of glasses to find the right pair, the staff here always provides great direction and within minutes help narrow down the search to couple great pair. Elaine was especially helpful last time I was in. She was knowledgeable and helpful!

Optik extended themselves to me to work me in for an eye exam, phoning me with the offer of an earlier opening in the schedule. They carry beautiful, high end eyewear and provide an in- house lab for same hour lens service after an eye exam. I am literally “over the moon happy” with my improved vision and the terrific service provided by Optik. To the woman who helped me “THANK-YOU”. The precision of the eye exam is awesome too. Dr. Ales and his team in this office are fantastic. The eye exam is excellent. Great selection of designer and vintage frames. Turnaround on prescription eye wear is within a week. I've always scheduled appointments within the week I call. I've been going here since 2010 and will not go anywhere else!

I've been getting my vintage frames from Dr. Joe for years. Not only do they have a great selection of vintage frames, they also carry really cool sunglasses and Chrome Hearts frames. All of the staff, Kirsten, Amy, Adam are exceptional. Dr. Joe is fun to be around and is also associated with Oakland Ophthalmic and has been to Kenya numerous times on medical missions with some of those doctors.
