In 1990, Robert and Louann Withers decided to leave their many years of corporate life to embark on another journey. They decided to embrace their passion for great coffee, tea, fabulous homemade pastries and a menu for everyone to enjoy. Hence, the birth of Romancing the Bean - A Charming Coffeehouse Cafe.
Our staff is dedicated, hardworking and collectively we share a commitment to not just fabulous coffee and tea but to provide the freshest available pastries baked daily in our own kitchen. We don't rise obscenely early for no reason. We're not just a coffeehouse. We have a great breakfast and lunch menu of our famous muffins, steamed eggs, stuffed croissants, salads, sandwiches, soups etc.

Services
Our garden salad is a blend of crispy romaine and iceberg lettuce with purple cabbage, topped with shredded carrots and croutons. An excellent combination of lettuce, tomato, sliced deli ham and turkey, hard boiled egg and cheese. Your choice of multi grain, white bread, sourdough bread, rye bread, sourdough roll, low carb tortilla, tortilla or croissant.
All are presented on nice silver trays and dishes that we collect after your event is completed. Our version of being green, low trash issue. We do provide early breakfast and lunch delivery prior to noon with 24-48 hours advance notice. Please check with us anytime we sometimes can save the day if you get my drift.
We are conveniently located in the heart of downtown Tempe in the Hayden Ferry Lakeside complex. Enter into this area going north off Rio Salado Pkwy between the parking garage and the AC Hotel via the only street that services these buildings. There is easy metered street parking in front of the coffeehouse as well as garage parking available.

The sweet bread is always warm and good. I always tended to Aim for a refreshing smoothie.
The chicken toasted croissant is by far my favorite. I wouldn't order ice coffee again from here it's more ice than coffee in a small cup. -

Absolutely incredible experience. The owner is incredibly kind and attentive. I menu is best described as "I want to try everything". I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu in a Warm Croissant with jam on the side and I highly encourage you to try one of their croissants. For a drink the iced Mexican Mocha is my recommendation for something refreshing.

I saw many good reviews about their coffee and yes I concur they offer nice drip coffee. Love their beverages served in message mugs which make a statement. We enjoyed the Cheesy scramble egg sausage English muffins. I must say I like the spicy tomato salsa that served on the side. Hoping to come back tomorrow for our breakfast.

Literally the best coffee shop I've been to me and my wife went the other day and got ourselves the French toast muffins and a mocha blended iced coffee and I got a caramel and chocolate blended was so bomb service was great quick and friendly def will be back before I leave the state gonna get some for the road wish they had one in Kansas If I could give 10 stars I would like no lie

I truly can't say enough good things about this AMAZING coffee shop!!! The employees are amazing, food and coffee are equally just as delicious.
To top this all off, I went in with my two small children (8&6 years old) and the way the staff treated them and talked to them and engaged them, my kids felt like they left Disneyland when we left.....truly just amazing and a different level of service, quality and personnel.

I saw for some sandwiches, they use Boars head meat which is quality. My friend got the chicken gordon blu.
An employee recommended the chili which I have not gotten to try yet and the blue berry scones in the glass display also looked good.
The drinks are priced very fairly. a medium is big and larges aren't over $4. The Latte was pretty good, maybe could've been a tish warmer. Didn't care for the styrofoam togo cups.

When I stayed at the AC Hotel in Tempe, this coffee shop was located in the same business plaza across the street. Super convenient & locally owned, yay! I was also excited they have a full breakfast menu in addition to your standard pastry items (plus full espresso menu). It appears they cater to the business clientele in the buildings nearby as most patrons were on break.
My biggest peeve was that 75% of the workers were not even wearing a mask... like they don't care about the safety of their guests or themselves. They were pretty friendly but come on - it's a pandemic! Protect

No consideration for their fellow man. I stopped by while Covid is at its highest rate of spread yet and not a single employee is wearing a mask. the manager was loudly telling customers she was sick of it all and if you don't like it you can leave.
I have a lot of empathy for what small businesses are dealing with right now and try to support at every turn. Sadly this manager doesn't understand what she is telling her customers with her actions is she doesn't care for their health or well being.

Today I went to pick up my things at my previous place of employment. One of the joys I had working there was my trips to Romancing the Bean.
Today I thought I'd take one last trip. I was greeted and helped by Christina. She is amazing. She was friendly and personable. She was even willing to remake my drink because I chose the right one. She truly made my day so much so, I'll be back.

RtB is located at the bottom of my office building (Silicon Valley Bank) so I go there quite often. I've ordered iced teas and sandwiches and never been disappointed. They use Boars Head meats and quality breads so the sammys are my go to. My favorite is the club: turkey, bacon and avocado and all extremely fresh.
SVB uses them often for catering and the chocolate chip cookies are to die for.
I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this location but it is conveniently located and great for grab and go.
