I needed an out of hours (after 8pm) urgent RT-PCR test for travel and wasn't having any luck with the places I googled. Total Health and Wellness came up in my search. To be honest, I thought it was a little dodgy but I was desperate so took the risk. Gave them my full credit card details over the phone, and I was then sent to some random building on 5th Ave at 9.45pm and told it would be closed and to call when I got there and I'd be let in. The doctor let us in and took my test in the hall of the building. Was told I'd have the results back in 1 hour (I paid $395). After a few follow up calls

I called and asked for a COVID PCR test. The man who answered the phone told me it cost $295 and would be performed by a mobile tester who could come to my car in midtown south. HOWEVER he said that in order to reserve, he needed my credit card number (over the phone). I said I didn't feel comfortable giving that. He told me to call 311 to find out if they are accredited or not. He said that he gets 90% of his business from 311 referrals. Then he said "you must call me back in 10 minutes or I close my appointments for the night". So I called 311. They said that there is no accredited test facility

Tried to get a rapid test here and they told me to pay via Venmo and call my insurance to get it reimbursed. When I said I felt unsure about paying for a medical expense with Venmo and contacting my insurance after, the guy on the phone told me it’s the 21st century and I should get used to it. Wild.
