Sarah received her Master's degree in Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University in 2003. She spent 11 years in an interdisciplinary pediatric outpatient setting working with infants and children with a wide variety of orthopedic, neurologic, and developmental diagnoses. Since 2010, Sarah has focused her ongoing education on manual therapy and is trained in myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and muscle energy technique.
Manual therapy is a hands-on evaluation and treatment approach aimed at decreasing soft tissue tension and increasing joint mobility. It promotes postural balance, improves symmetry of movement, decreases pain / inflammation, and increases patient comfort and cooperation. Manual techniques include massage / soft tissue work, myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and joint mobilization.
Torticollis is tightening of a baby's neck muscles associated with the baby having a preference for turning or tilting the head one way more than the other. Plagiocephaly is when the baby's head is misshapen, most commonly with a flat spot on one side of the back of the head. Positioning within the womb is the most common cause, but the muscle tightening and head shape often worsen in the first few months of life.
