Founded in 1952, New Jersey Museum of Transportation's Pine Creek Railroad is one of the oldest operating narrow gauge railway exhibits in the country. Tickets are date and time specific, and cannot be transferred to a different date or time. Where is the museum? You're standing in it! NJMT is a "working museum": the train and all of the buildings on the public area are historical.
There's no large building full of artifacts; ride the train and walk around the public area to enjoy our museum. Face masks are required on NJMT premises, to ride on the train and for the duration of your visit. Temperatures will be taken prior to boarding. Anyone whose temperature is above 99.6 will be refused service and asked to leave the property promptly.

Services
It all began in a sand pit. Around 1950, under pressure to convert to diesel power, the Raritan River Sand Company in Nixon, New Jersey, contemplated scrapping their steamers. Meanwhile, railroad enthusiasts James Wright (who worked for his family's sand company) and Jay L. Wulfson (manager of the Mayfair Dress Company in South River, New Jersey) formed Wright & Wulfson, Inc., and bought a Baldwin 0-4-0T to become Pine Creek No. 1.
Before riding our historic rolling stock, young passengers are briefed on railroad safety by a qualified conductor-docent, who will accompany them on their ride to answer questions and point out items of interest along the right-of-way. Time permitting, the visit may include a tour of the shop and car barn.
We offer parties most weekends throughout the year; however, we are unable to accept reservations for dates that coincide with our special events. The time length allotted for the party is two hours, and can be scheduled to start at either 11:00 AM or 2:00 PM. The rental fee for the station is $50.00, which includes a tour of our facility.
We are located in beautiful Allaire State Park, New Jersey, on Route 524 (also known as 4265 Atlantic Avenue). Please note that we are not located in the campground. From the Garden State Parkway, take Exit 98 to Route I-195 West; Exit 31B and follow the signs to Allaire State Park. From the New Jersey Turnpike, take Exit 7A to Route I-195 East (Shore Points); Exit 31B and follow the signs to Allaire State Park.
Our Volunteers play a key role in the organization: together they donate thousands of hours each year. They represent all different backgrounds and ages, and are as young as 18. No matter which area you choose, you'll receive, among other things, unlimited train rides during our regular operating season just by showing your membership card to the Ticket Agent.
