I am a licensed mental health counselor in the State of Washington. I received a Masters Degree in Psychology from Antioch University, Seattle in 1999. I am certified as a Fellow in Thanatology: death, dying, and bereavement. I also completed a certificate program in the treatment of psychological trauma at the University of Washington.
Just as our physical bodies move toward healing, I believe that our minds and spirits also move toward health after being wounded. Because "one size" does not fit all, I use a variety of therapeutic techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-oriented therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR).
Why seek out a counselor? The scariest part for many in seeking counseling is fearing that nobody will be able to understand what you're going through. It is important to put your search for a counselor into the proper perspective. If you were sick, you would seek out a doctor. If you were dealing with a physical injury, you would seek out a physical therapist.
I have provided workshops on many subjects to companies and organizations across the Puget Sound region. Once a client identifies a topic to be presented, the workshop can be adapted to one to two hours, or to half- or full-day retreats. I have conducted many crisis interventions in community businesses and organizations.
Within you will find a list of counseling referral resources of trusted colleagues along with book lists under 5 categories that I have developed over time from my own reading along with suggestions from clients and group participants. I am always interested in hearing about other resources that people find helpful.
