Services
In 1916, J.F. Floyd of Floyd Mortuary in Spartanburg suggested that John Woodward and several associates organize a local mortuary for citizens of color. Born in 1873, John Woodward was a farmer whose family originated in Fairfield County, SC. John Woodward spearheaded the efforts to open the mortuary, so it went forward under the sole ownership of John Woodward d/b/a The John W. Woodward Funeral Home.
The Management and staff at J.W. Woodward Funeral Home, Inc. has provided quality services to families for many years. We will continue to provide the same quality service for the years to come. During your time of need you can count on us to help you get through this difficult time. Dealing with the lost of a loved one can be difficult and painful, but we are here to help.
Holding a funeral or memorial service for your loved one is a positive first step in the grieving process. Family members and friends get a chance to say their goodbyes, and at the same time, they get to share strong feelings with one another. In the days, weeks and months following the service, people continue to need others to lean on for understanding, encouragement and guidance.
The Department of Veterans' Affairs provides information on memorial benefits, health services, life insurance programs and more. The Social Security Administration allows survivors to report the death of the loved. The site also provides information on potential benefits that can be claimed by the survivors.
A funeral or memorial is a customary way to recognize death and its finality. Funerals are held for the living to show respect for the dead and to help survivors begin the grief process. They also give mourners a chance to share stories, create memories, fulfill religious beliefs & customs, participate in a support system, and gather at a peaceful place during a time of confusion and uncertainty.

Words will never be able to convey how much I appreciate the services provided to me, my children, and my family after the sudden passing of my husband of 27 years. Kay and her staff were not only professional but extraordinarily kind, meeting every need and going above and beyond. They very discreetly dealt with family drama and my children and I and the host of grieving family and friends were able to enjoy and honor my husband's celebration of life to the fullest. Kay was also on call to help me wade through my moments of despair when I felt overwhelmed. I love her and honor the great service
