Born in Kansas City he moved away to the Ozark Mountains as a young child and grew up in the family plumbing business.
After high school, Wes joined the Army for three years and as a machinist, his first duty assignment was at Fort Hood Texas wherein his off duty time he apprenticed as and Electrician. Later he served in Friedburg, Germany where he quickly advanced to the rank of Sergeant. During active duty, Wes graduated from the Seventh Army NCO Academy located in Bad Tolze, Germany.
