Services
In addition to the standard home inspection, Howell on Homes Inspection LLC offers other services to assist clients in making decisions about a home. These services typically involve collecting samples on-site and then sending these samples to an independent testing lab with expertise in analyzing the respective samples.
Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States and the first leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Much of New York State, particularly the areas we service, have been rated red "Zone 1", which indicates the highest potential of a radon screening level greater than 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter).
If you've had a radon test performed on your home and received a result above the EPA recommended limit of 4 pCi/L, you may want to consider having a radon mitigation system installed in your home. This typically involves creating sub-slab negative pressure by drilling a hole through the floor of your basement and installing a fan to draw the radon out of your house.
Many home inspectors offer septic system testing utilizing a dye test methodology. Although Howell on Homes Inspection LLC can perform a septic system dye test, the encouraged method is to instead have a septic system expert conduct an inspection as part of a tank cleaning prior to closing on a home.
Many rural homes are not on a public water system, but are instead on a private well, or on rare occasion, on a shared well system. For your health, it is important to ensure the water is free from harmful contaminants. Public water systems are routinely tested and treated by the respective municipality, and those test results are publicly available upon request.

It's so funny that I have the same complaint as Chris Jones below, who he calls a fake review. This guy showed up, got chummy with my realtor, got chummy with the seller, and in the course of a 2 hour inspection missed big signs of water issues that are going to cost me a fortune to fix. He didn't even tell me that the basement doesn't have a sump pump installed. Would not have gone forward with the purchase had I received an accurate and thorough inspection.

Jim Howell is a phenomenal resource for home inspections. Very straight forward which I appreciate before making an offer on a home. I don't want/need the fluff, I need/want to know what the pros & cons are of the home I am considering. Jim did just that. Showed up early, did a complete inspection, provided quick report, and took his time to explain the observations he made during the inspection. Highly recommend calling Jim for your next home inspection!

James just completed a radon mitigation on my home, which I am getting ready to put on the market. He was always available for my questions and concerns.
He was very prompt and uses quality materials. He guarantees his work, another reason to feel satisfied. He made a shocking discovery a lot easier to experience, and I feel confident about selling a safe home.

I am currently selling my home 6 bedroom 7 bath built back in 1860 and the potential buyers use mr. How well as an inspector. I've done a little time with property management and thought I knew my way around some of these older properties. This guy taught me a lesson actually several. Not only did he find things that I had honestly never seen before what impressed me most was his knowledge and willingness to explain to both parties what's good what's bad and what needs to be monitored I found him extremely fair and knowledgeable I would recommend him to anyone purchasing a home.I guess I should

Spent less than 1.5 hours inspecting a 4,000 square foot home. Missed obvious signs of water damage that have so far cost me a fortune to remedy and didn’t even look at the roof, which has proven to be leaky and in need of repairs. Would have not bought this house if I had received an accurate inspection.
EDIT: in response to the reply from owner the inspection was done in Ithaca on 6/7/19.
