I am a people person and I have always been fascinated by how complex and contradictory humans are. My sensitivity to what others are feeling was confusing for me when I was young, and becoming a therapist has helped me understand this and make use of it in a way that works for me. Therapy can help people turn their sensitivities into strengths - an amazing turn of events!
Before becoming a therapist I worked with children and young people in group homes, community centers, and public schools. This gave me an understanding of childhood trauma both in families and as a result of institutionalized societal oppression.

Services
I can offer supervision to trainees and associates at CIIS counseling centers and at training clinics such at Grateful Heart and the Center for Mindful Psychotherapy. I am not currently accepting interns into my private practice. I help early career clinicians integrate the various training they have received into a coherent, individualized offering.
Almost everyone will, at some point in their lives, experience insomnia. It can present anywhere on a continuum from a mild, intermittent annoyance to a debilitating crisis. We need sleep, and most people don't get enough. This post isn't about severe or chronic insomnia, which should be taken very seriously.
In my experience, you will usually know after a brief chat on the phone or in the first couple sessions if we are a good fit. The research is clear that the quality of the relationship is the most important factor in a successful treatment. To me this means you can trust your gut when looking for a therapist.

I have been a colleague of Robin's for over 6 years in both educational and clinical settings. In a therapist-saturated area such as the Bay, Robin's work truly stands out. His mind is sharp, his heart carefully online, and he is dedicated to doing the personal work and self-development necessary to take his clients safely along their journey.
I am grateful to have Robin in the therapist community for consultation. I have referred to him often and highly recommend his work.

Robin's passion for the intellectual aspect of his work... the theory, the technique, the research... is a huge factor in his effectiveness as a therapist. He's integrated his learning into his own style, and he feels like a real person you can actually relate to. He's got a ton of heart and is highly empathic, but you can count on him to tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear. His clients are lucky to have him as a therapist.

I am so glad to know Robin and have him in my life. We went to grad school together and since then have jumped at the chance to work again with him. He brings a wonderful blend of insight, compassion, and groundedness to therapy that can be so hard to find. He's a gem- reach out to work with him, and you'll be so grateful to have him in your life, too.

Robin is a colleague I know from graduate school and trainings. He is extremely intelligent, warm and present. His ongoing curiosity about the mind and about the work of psychotherapy is truly an inspiration to me. If intellectual curiosity with a somatic (body-oriented) approach sounds like a good fit for you, give him a call. He's great!
