Services
You or your child are engaged in mental health treatment and your therapist/psychiatrist have recommended a psychological evaluation to clarify diagnoses. You have concerns about your child and would like a comprehensive assessment to diagnose/evaluate for ADHD or Autism. Your child is experiencing behavioral or social issues at school and/or home and the reason is unknown.
Freedom First Psychological Services offers a variety of services designed to benefit individuals on the Autism Spectrum. Our services options can be chosen and structured to develop a unique program that matches the needs of your child, as well as your family. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the most effective and evidence based treatment modality to assist children with Autism in obtaining skills and reducing problem behaviors.
Coverage provided by each insurance plan varies and may include co-pays, coinsurance, or a deductible. Our office staff will attempt to verify your insurance coverage before your first visit. However, please note that you are responsible for full payment should your insurance company not cover the services, so please check your coverage beforehand and let us know right away if there are ever any changes to your insurance.
From the Thruway- Take Exit 24, merge onto I-87 N via Exit 1N, Take Exit 6 and veer Left towards Schenectady onto Troy Schenectady Rd. Take a Left onto Wade Rd after 0.5 miles and then a Left onto Avis Dr. after 0.25 miles. 4 Avis Dr. is on the Left side of the road and Suite 101 is the first door on the Left when you enter the building.

Took the money and offered nothing in exchange. Cold and uncaring. In general, here and elsewhere, perhaps most licensed mental health counselors don't have enough age or experience to have much to offer. Psychologists can have much more insight and compassion for their patients gained from both age and experience as well as more training.

I've been waitlisted for almost 6 months and every time I've called and asked about it they said they'd call eventually and schedule me for the next month which obviously didn't happen. If there's no availability, instead of wasting my time when I really need this, they could've said that and I could've found somewhere else but every single time I've contacted them about this they've said they will schedule me soon. Still have not received another call since I contacted a month ago. Will look somewhere else now that hopefully won't do this.

Great place, great experience! I never thought I could find answers to my issues, but they’ve proved me wrong!!! They are so accommodating, they have suggested a therapist based on my needs which worked out great. Dr. Wendy is super nice, understanding and caring. I feel so much better then I’ve felt in a long time.

As a care manager, I have worked with Freedom First on several occasions for the psychological testing that is necessary for children and families I serve. They have always been able to schedule appointments for testing exponentially faster than other providers and provide the results in a timely manner. The assessments are very thorough, and provide a lot of information for parents, providers and schools. I would recommend them to anyone seeking psychological testing as well as outpatient mental health treatment.

Dr. Mahler is professional and kind. I am a family physician and I refer patients for evaluations like ADHD for both children and adults, learning disabilities as well as for therapy.
