With his son, Joel, by his side he quickly established his business as one of the most professional, reliable and finest quality upholstery shops in the Portland metro area.

I had an antique chair that has been in my family for decades re-upholstered by Joel Talbert at Michael Talbert Upholstery. Joel was very professional and polite in each interaction we had regarding my chair. He was timely in his responses to my inquiries, as well as getting my chair back to me within the discussed time frame. He did a beautiful upholstery job that far exceeded my expectations. I was very impressed with the workmanship. It was a wonderful experience all the way around. I will definitely recommend him to my friends and family for future work on upholstery projects they have.

If I could give this company zero stars I would. Typically, I try and limit my reviews to those that are more positive, but this company moved me to warn others. Pros, nice job upholstering two pillows. Cons, VERY expensive and took 2 months. But here's the bigger story. When I picked a fabric, Joel said it would be at least 10 weeks. I was fine with that, and made a calendar reminder to call him at 10 weeks for status. At 10 weeks I made a friendly call to check in, and he said it was going to be a couple more weeks. I was fine with that, too. But then for some reason things start to go sideways

BUYER BEWARE - I rarely write reviews but I wish others had warned me. I needed a bench cushion made, met with Joel to select the fabric and get an estimate. He verified with the supplier that the fabric was in stock and he told me it would take 8-10 weeks to complete. He asked for 50% down but only accepted cash or checks so I came back back a second time to pay. He called two days later saying the cost of the fabric would be double because there was a minimum order amount and "he was not about to get stuck with the rest". The fabric was already quite expensive ($ 336 for 1.5 yrd) so I could not

A small shop off the road, can be easy to drive by but is completely worth going to, the person who helped myself and my family member was extremely polite and helpful.
For new upholstery cloth/patterns, there are literally thousands of options to choose from and a dozen different options for cushion foam. If you want something done your way, this is the place to go.

I had vintage channel chair that badly needed to be reupholstered. I kept putting if off. Talbert’s Upholstery is in my neighborhood, and I had driven past it countless times and kept thinking to myself, “I need to call these people”. Well, 10 years later, I finally called them and I just can’t tell you happy I am that I did!
I received a quote right away from Joel – I compared it to other quotes I received and his quote was very reasonable. Some of the others never got back to me, and those that did, their estimates were sky high
