In addition to golf, Idlewild is the premier venue in the south suburbs for elegant Wedding Receptions offering magnificent views, delectable cuisine, customized events and unsurpassed service.In that year, a small group of men headed by Fred Newman (who became Idlewild's first president) decided to establish a club and build the finest golf course in the district.

While there is ample time for a casual round of golf, for those preferring a more structured game or competitive events the club has both Men's and Ladies Golf Programs as well as a Junior Program.
Idlewild'Country Club's 18-hole, par 72 championship golf course offers beauty and challenge to players of all skill levels. Built in 1908, our championship parkland course features playing distances between 5400-6750 yards, bisected by Butterfield Creek and laid out over gentle sloping terrain.
The initial membership paid Al Naylor the princely sum of $60 near the Illinois Central Railroad line nearby and to the serve as Idlewild's first club professional.While records may be vague, sometime in the 1920's, esteemed architect William Langford (Butterfield CC, Ruth Lake CC, Lawsonia Links) was brought in to work on greens complexes and bunkering.

We are a private country club located in Flossmoor, Illinois; however, you do not need to be a member to have a wedding or special event here at the club. Our club house has a beautiful banquet room that features cathedral ceilings and walls of windows offering magnificent views of our championship golf course, diminishing the boundary between indoors and out, truly a private sanctuary in the suburbs.
