Services
The approach I use is called Object Relations. This approach has a unique richness in allowing problems to unfold. This type of therapy works in depth, allowing layers to surface for observation and understanding. Connections and patterns appear as feelings, dreams, and thoughts emerge and as interactions take place between the client and the therapist.
I work with women, men and couples who are having trouble with their relationships due to stress, miscommunications, lack of emotional understanding or intimacy. Over my 20 years of practice I have focused on understanding the relationships we build and choose. Painful feelings and loneliness can be part of all relationships and over time these feelings can become strained and depleted.
I return phone calls personally. Generally I am able to offer an appointment within the week. Our first session will be a working session. I will ask you about the problems that are bringing you to therapy at this time. I will do my best to listen empathically and together we will begin to formulate your goals for the work.
Karen Fraley completed her degree from Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and a board certified diplomate (BCD) in clinical social work. She completed advanced clinical training at the International Psychotherapy Institute in Washington DC, and is a faculty member there.
On-going seminars and study groups, focusing on an object relations approach to theory and practice, are available in several locations. Generally the seminars consist of the discussion of a paper or chapter by a major contributor to object relations theory. In formal case discussions are used to apply the theories and techniques discussed.
