Even for active adults, cities can sometimes seem hectic. For the elderly, they can be overwhelming and even unsafe. So we built De un Amor in a Corralitos country setting that provides calm, restful conditions for our residents. Unlike large, institutional facilities, De un Amor provides personal care with high staffing levels and caring personnel.
So we're able to not only care for our residents, but have the time to care about them as well. Inside looks like a home, not a hospital. Our Private rooms are cheerful, light, airy, colorful, and the doors to the outside are never locked. So residents can come and go as they're able to. The public rooms have big sunny windows and even large stone fireplace for winter evenings.

Services
One way we know we've succeeded in achieving the homelike environment we want is that our staff feels proud of where they work and of the service they're able to offer. We see that pride in the little extras they do. A fancy braid for a lady who can no longer care for her own beautiful hair. Gentle words to a confused resident.
While all of our residents are dealing with some challenge that makes them unable to live alone, they all deserve to enjoy their life in tranquility. At De un Amor, we do our best to make sure they can. De un Amor provides everything our residents need. The staff does laundry for residents. We provide two or more showers a week with full supervision and appropriate physical aids for safety.
It's our belief that peace and tranquility are important in senior care. Our private grounds allow residents with limited mobility to enjoy the outdoors without worrying about traffic. And residents with mental or emotional issues are calmer in our small, peaceful setting. There's plenty of room to walk around the 100 apple trees on level walking trails.

My family is grateful to De Un Amor for the excellent care they provided our Dad and Mom. Despite my father's challenging condition, Tryg, the owner, was willing to accommodate both of my parents so that they could spend their last years together.
Running a care facility is incredibly challenging, but we found everyone at De Un Amor to be consistently patient, caring, and attentive. The administrators Marcy, Maria Elena and Veronica, and their staff bring tremendous knowledge, skill, compassion, and heart to their work.

I am way overdue sharing my thoughts about De Un Amor in Corralitos.
Our mother moved into the facility in mid 2019 after stays at some SNF's in the Santa Cruz/Watsonvile area. She was suffering from Parkinson's disease then had some falls resulting in to two incidences of broken hips. Needless to say, a really rough time previous to her arriving at De Un Amor, but once there things smoothed out greatly for her.

The management and staff at De Un Amor are kind and compassionate in the care and services they provide to the residents. The grounds are so beautiful and provide a serene backdrop for those who can no longer live on their own.
We moved our mother Ellie to De Un Amor from Aegis of Aptos, where she was not getting the care and attention she needed and we were promised she would get. As Ellie's care needs progressed the cost at Aegis went up astronomically while the care she received did not.

I cannot say enough kind words for De Un Amor. My mother lived there until her death in 2009 and now my sister is there. The staff remains the same, which when you think about the difficulty of this work, this is a testament to their dedication. Their kindness in dealing with my mother, a very independent and strong-willed individual, was so comforting to our family. So, when my sister began to show signs of dementia, Trygve was the first person I called. I would highly recommend de un Amor, in fact I have many times. Thank you Trygve and your staff from the bottom of my heart.

I thought the staff at De Un Amor did a terrific job taking care of my mother. The facility is clean and staff is very caring. My complaint is with the owner. Beware of his promises. He promised that my mother would be able to live out the rest of her life at De Un Amor and that if she needed Hospice, they could accommodate Hospice. However, the truth is, once my mother started on Hospice and needed oxygen, he kicked her out of his facility. So be aware that your parent may start at the facility but when they most need stability, if they have health issues the owner doesn't want to deal with

My father stayed at this place briefly. He had moderate dementia, which the staff were unable to manage. The facility is quite attractive. and homelike But, when staff were unable to manage my father's behavior, the owner Tyg, pressured my father's wife to remove him from the facility at once He nagged her relentlessly, failing to give the required notice, which I have learned is 30 days. We were unable to find a new place for dad to live in that time frame and she took him home. This had disastrous consequences which resulted in dad's hospitalization and significant deterioration of his health

Highly recommend! I am a Registered Nurse working in Santa Cruz county for over 13 years and this is the FIRST place I always recommend. De Un Amor staff live up to their name. The staff will accommodate your needs. Tryg, the owner is on site and very open and approachable. The staff really do provide excellent care unlike some other profit driven facilities. The facility is kept very clean and the food is good.

In 2002 we placed our aunt at De Un Amor where she remained until her passing in February of 2014. A tremendous burden was lifted from my wife's shoulder's when she entered the facility. In her twelve years there she was treated with respect and dignity. Tryg and his staff went out of their way to provide the the care we were unable to . The atmosphere was the same as being at home with splendid meals, loving care, birthday and holiday celebrations, and daily activities. She was always clean and provided for with whatever she needed. We made several unannounced visits, were warmly received, and

We are so thankful to find De Un Amor. It was actually recommended to us by a previous care facility in the area that could no longer provide for my mom's needs as she is now 99. We have found the care to be a very warm home like atmoshpere with caring staff. It feels more like a family atmosphere than institutional. I can not say enough about Tryg, the owner, who is so kind and caring about his residents, always wanting them to be happy and feel special. He takes the time to speak with the people and always has kind words for the residents. He recently remodeled the facility which looks more like

My mother has been enjoying living at De Un Amor for the past year. I moved her there after a long wait list finally opened up. She was in two other places prior that were not comparable to the loving, attentive, constant supervision that she receives now. I feel relieved knowing that she is so well taken care of in such a beautiful environment. The fresh food that is prepared for each meal (some of it is grown in the garden) smells and is delicious. The residents truly enjoy the company and help of the longterm staff. They are sweet, gentle and patient with each resident. The home is super clean

De Un Amor is wonderful! My mother has been a resident there for almost two years now. She is happy and safe. The facility itself is beautiful. My mom calls it home...she has not asked to return to her home in Aptos even once! It is in a canyon surrounded by apple tree and pines. The grounds are completely secured so that the residents can stroll anywhere they want, with or without assistance, as needed. They have lots of activities and several groups stop by to sing and a terrific piano play that comes on most Sundays. The residents love it!! The staff is outstanding!! It's family

Bait and switch operation. The owner, Tryg Thorensen, assured us that he could provide experienced care for my grandmother's medical issues. The staff is not well trained to take care of residents that require oxygen. They prepare poor quality food that includes half a white bread sandwich and Cheetos. Her calls at night for help were consistently ignored. We repeatedly found my grandmother soaked in urine, cold, and not blanketed. She later developed an infection that had been untreated for a week. The owner threatened to evict my 92-year old wheelchair-bound grandmother because he claimed that

De Un Amor is a residential care facility in which we placed our mother. The atmosphere is comforting, warm, peaceful and beautiful. We love that it is in the country away from the busy-ness of the city. The residents can go outside any time during the day as the grounds are fenced in (nicely) so they can't walk off the property. There is a creek in the back and each room has it's own deck. The help is so incredibly kind and loving. The food is home made, not institutional. There are activities for the residents to become involved in if they choose, but they can also just sit and enjoy
