Smithfield is a small town with lots of heart and so much to love: the ham that made Smithfield famous; the picturesque Main Street with shops you just cant pass up; historic architecture from Colonial to Victorian gingerbread and from Federal to Gothic cottages (and the history to go along with them!); and an impressive array of mouthwatering restaurants; a vibrant arts and cultural scene; handcrafted local wine, brew and spirits; boutique accommodations to write home about; a waterfront vantage point; stunningly beautiful pastoral landscapes and the gracious charm and Southern hospitality of its locals.

Isle of Wight County, Virginia is one of the oldest county governments in America. Nestled on the shores of Virginia's historic James River, Isle of Wight's residents enjoy the rural nature of the County coupled with the quaintness of the incorporated small towns, Smithfield and Windsor. Genuine Smithfield is a very walkable town.
Where can I find Smithfield Ham in Smithfield? While tours of the ham processing plants are not available, we recommend that you visit and tour Darden's Country Store, shop at Taste of Smithfield, Smithfield Foods' flagship ham shop and discover the history of the ham industry at the Isle of Wight County Museum.
American employees leave a total of 662 million vacation days on the table, which equates to about $66.4 billion in benefits not taken.

Don't leave your vacay days on the table when you could be paddle boarding or kayaking on the Pagan River from the launch at Windsor Castle Park, shopping at Vintage Potential and other great shops along Smithfield's Historic Main Street, or enjoying the microbrews, tasty food and live music at Wharf Hill Brewing Company.Rock your PTO with a day off in Smithfield & Isle of Wight County.
The Hospitality Hero Program recognizes frontline employees and volunteers who can make or break the visitation experience for the public every day. Heroes are nominated by their employers via email to Judy Winslow, our Tourism Director, and each hero is recognized at the Tourism Bureau's annual National Tourism Month celebration in May.
Smithfield & Isle of Wight Tourism recognizes the vital role our "front line" employees in the tourism industry play in ensuring our visitors have a positive experience. The Hambassador Program offers these employees the opportunity to learn about local attractions in the town and county, their local tourism bureau and customer service tips.

Visited from Westminster-Canterbury in Virginia Beach last week. I've been to Smithfield several times for Volksmarches but had never made it into any of the stores. I love the necklace and earrings set that I bought at the Visitors Center! Will definitely have to go back there again on my next trip!

It's a great place to walk around. Walk down Mainstreet and pop into the shops. Masks are required to go in most places. Restaurants are open for both indoor and outdoor eating without much wait. Head to the park for a leisure walk after eating at the Smithfield restaurant.

Wasn't planning on going to this town but with other tourist destinations being overly populated, we decided to check the town out.. just drive up to the ferry from Jamestown and you're there in a few minutes. Super cute town with little stores on main street the family can enjoy. Your children can hunt for the Smithfield pigs that are around town and the parents can enjoy a beer at the brewery. Oh and don't miss the cemetery tour!

This is the Visitors Center for the town of Smithfield, Virginia. We tried to go here to get information about the town and what there is to do there. I guess we got there too early because they do not open until 10 AM. They do have some brochures in a holder outside of the building, so taking those was the best we could do. We ventured around the town on our own since there was nobody to ask for recommendations. They were having some kind of scarecrow competition and there were scarecrows all up and down Main Street.

Friendly, humorous, knowledgeable, polite, kind, hard working, helpful, creative, ambitious and so much more. If tourism can't help you, they know someone who can. They have lots of information and know how to plan a small party or a large event. And they exemplify teamwork. Need information at any angle on Smithfield and Isle of Wight? They're your answer.
