The Tennessee Primary Care Association (TPCA) improves access to primary health care through leadership, advocacy and support as the voice of Community Health Centers. Founded in 1976, TPCA unites health centers and other providers of care in an effort to improve access for the medically underserved.

What is the Tennessee Primary Care Association? A. The Tennessee Primary Care Association is a not-for-profit corporation with the goal of strengthening community-based primary health care systems in Tennessee. Q. Are you a clinic? A. No. The Tennessee Primary Care Association does not provide health care.

Federally-qualified health centers (FQHCs) offer high-quality, comprehensive health care services to their patients.
The FQHCs meet specific federal requirements, such as having a community-based board of directors in which 51% of the board members are patients of the health center; implementing a sliding fee scale so that health care is offered regardless of a person's ability to pay or insurance status; being located in a medically underserved area so that services are convenient to people who may experience barriers such as transportation; and offering comprehensive services including dental and behavioral health care.
