Services
Elder Law is an area of legal practice that focuses on issues that impact the elderly. Through the practice of elder law, we help prepare the elderly person for financial freedom and autonomy. In our Elder Law Practice we review the client's financial and medical needs to create proper financial plans and address long-term care options.
Disputes between family members, business partners, or creditors can result when estates are not carefully planned or unforeseen issues arise. Our philosophy is to facilitate harmony among family members whenever possible. However, the attorneys at NWEPP have extensive litigation experience in trial and appellate courts, and will not hesitate to pursue a civil action if our clients are being defrauded or their rights are not being protected.
Nursing home costs average around $8,000/month in Washington. The costs increase significantly as the level of care needed increases and often, as one ages. Very few people have long-term care insurance or the money necessary to pay for a skilled care facility. Even fewer have the funds to pay for a nursing home and support a spouse who is not receiving long-term care.
A well-thought-out estate plan eases the transfer of assets to your beneficiaries after your death. It reduces the likelihood of conflict between family members and saves your heirs money - often saving far more than the cost of the estate plan itself. If married, an estate plan can protect significant assets for surviving spouses if they enter a long-term care facility.
For families with a loved one with developmental, cognitive, or physical disabilities, a guardianship may be the best option. Our firm represents families throughout the Guardianship process, both petitioning for Guardianships and representing those acting as Guardians. A carefully crafted power of attorney can also negate the need and expense of a guardianship if crafted early enough in a disabled persons life.
