Welcome to Hastings Funeral Home, where we have proudly served the Morgantown and our surrounding communities with compassion, dignity and respect since 1952. In 1952, Dewey S. Hastings and his wife, Mary, purchased the property at 153 Spruce St. and began the operation of their funeral home.

Although their beginnings were humble, they have been blessed by the citizens of this county and beyond by making their funeral home the largest single provider of funeral and cremation services in the area. The Hastings welcomed their two sons, Dan and Dewey, into the business. Young Dewey has since retired, leaving his father and brother in charge of the day-to-day operation of the funeral home.
Services
Dewey has spent more than 60 years as a funeral service professional in dedicated service to our community. He and his wife founded Hastings Funeral Home in 1952 and have grown the business continuously since then, making Hastings Funeral Home the most trusted name in funeral service in Monongalia County.
The property at 153 Spruce St. was purchased in 1951 by Dewey and Mary Hastings, beginning their endeavor in funeral service. The original facility consisted of two viewing rooms, and the upstairs served as the Hastings family residence. This photo shows that over the years, the building and property have undergone several renovations and additions.
Family and friends getting together to honor a loved one's life is one of the most important steps in the grieving and healing process. You may opt to have a traditional religious or military service, or as more and more people are doing, you can choose to have a non-traditional 'life celebration'.
No matter if a death is sudden, or if it something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.
Traditionally, a burial service involves a visitation, followed by a funeral service in the funeral home, a church, or other place of worship. The casket is typically present at both these events, and it is your decision on whether to have the casket open or not. You have the option of having the remains interred (earth burial), or it may be entombed in a crypt inside a mausoleum (above ground burial).
