Services
The mission of the Montessori School of Oakton (MSO) is to provide an enriched educational environment, based upon Montessori principles, that will guide, nurture and stimulate the fullest development of each individual child. We are a family-oriented Montessori school located on Main Street in Fairfax, VA.
Dr. Montessori developed her educational practices scientifically, through observation and experimentation. She noticed that children of different ages had different needs and tendencies, and determined therefore, that the methods and practices of education should change with the children.
Rather than fight the laws of nature, Montessori suggested that we "follow the child" and allow our children to show us how to facilitate the development of their fullest potential.Since the child's body and mind are different in each of these age groups, the specific educational methods differ as well.

Our Primary program is a three year cycle designed to meet the needs of individual children within a community-like setting. The needs of the children are met through the interplay of a specially prepared environment, a directress, assistants and the children. The successful result is a group of happy children, who are involved in activities that contribute to their sense of competency and self-satisfaction.
Montessori education is an established philosophy and method, originated by Dr. Maria Montessori in the early 1900's. Dr. Montessori, the first female physician in Italy, founded the first "Casa de Bambini" in 1907. She dedicated her life to the study of children and how they learn.
Her approach to education was based on her scientific observations, combined with her background in psychology and her belief in the education of children as a means to create a better society.Today, after over 100 years of application, the principles of her approach have proved to be valid and continue to be respected and practiced all over the world.

My kids go to MSO and we love it. The teachers and staff have worked very closely with our family to make it the best possible experience for our children. They are responsive to our needs and always very professional but also friendly and kind. I have only wonderful things to say about my kids' primary teacher, specifically, she has been amazing to work with for the past 3 years! Would recommend this school to anyone looking for the true Montessori experience and a supportive community of families.

This was an amazing school, nourishing environment. I can say from personal experience this is one of the best school's I've ever been to. Definitely recommend for all ages, up to 6th grade. From the plays, to the fairs, to snack time, to the way of teaching, ABSOLUTELY THE BEST private school you can want. I loved it here. 5 stars!
