The families and members of NAMI Lake County, Ohio are here to help! We offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness. Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating.
NAMI membership at any level-local, state, or national-extends your membership to all levels. Most importantly, NAMI members can be secure in the knowledge that they are helping advance social justice for people affected by mental illnesses. If you or a loved one is in immediate danger calling 911 and talking with police may be necessary. It is important to notify the operator that it is a psychiatric emergency and ask for police officers trained in crisis intervention or trained to assist people experiencing a psychiatric emergency. The Crisis Hotline is staffed 24 hours a day by a trained staffer who understands what you're going through and really cares.
