I lived here for five years during grad school and found it very homey and conveniently located (right next to a park and ride, so plenty of bus options - express buses get you to UNC's campus in 10 mins or less). The apartment was comfortable - not fancy, but nice enough and spacious for the price we paid. University lake, as well as the the wooded areas and neighborhoods surrounding the complex, are great to walk around in - very peaceful and full of birds and squirrels! Apartment maintenance was quick and usually well done, the pool area is nice to have a few friends over, and the little family

Best apartment I’ve ever lived in! Poplar place is a calm and quiet apartment complex. There are beautiful trees and plants in the complex which made it feel like I was in a more wooded area. It’s got cute walking paths and is very close to grocery stores and restaurants (walkable). It’s near two major highways but you don’t hear or see the highway traffic from the complex. I was in a 3rd floor two bed one bath and it felt much more spacious than 930 feet due to tons of windows to let light in and high arched ceilings. It felt like living in a treehouse when on the balcony. The balcony

Friendly staff and professional. Elaine was an enormous help with this moving in process and has been professional throughout. The apartment has been commensurate with the rent charges. Adequate throughout and a great location.

In nearly 20 years of apartment living nothing compares to the surreal horror that is living in Poplar Place. They will tell you it's safe. They claim painting with Killz will take care of any mold issues. "...it's only dangerous if you see spores..."
I tried everything from spiritual to surgical healing efforts to regain my health, but what seems to have fixed the constant fevers, confusion, pain... I left Poplar Place.
I was just going to leave and never look back, but now they've charged us for damages that were there when we moved in, and I took pictures. Sure there was a rush to turn in

I have read some of the reviews and I have had nothing but a pleasant experience when dealing with the office staff there. My situation changed, and I was not able to move, but I will definitely reach back out to them in the future if things change.

I lived at Poplar Place for 3+ years. The staff, including the maintenance staff and office staff, are all so nice. They go above and beyond for their residents. If you want to rent from Poplar Place ask for Rhonda. She will make sure everything is taken care of and, is amazing. My favorite part about living there was all the trees and, the feeling that you had your own private oasis.

I would definitely recommend living at Poplar Place. I am only here for a year assignment at UNC, but right away, I felt at home in the neighborhood. I do not have a car while I am here, but there is a bus stop next to Poplar Place and even a biking path, which brings you to Carrboro and Chapel Hill. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help. They do activities for the residents too. I really enjoyed the recent Breakfast on the Run they did. Overall, I think it was the right choice.

I recently came in to visit with a friend of mine looking for an apartment. While I am not looking to move currently, if I was, I would love to live at Poplar Place after looking around. I was only there with my friend that day. We went to several other apartments in the area, and this was the friendliest. My friend called ahead and the lady she spoke to was very nice. I can't remember her name, but Elaine was the one we saw when we came in. She was very nice and made my friend feel very welcome to be there.

The apartments are cheap, but it is for a reason. Everything is run-down and falling apart, which wouldn't be a problem except they don't repair anything quickly or sometimes even at all. I had the same problems for my entire lease (over 10 months) and they lied about fixing things that were never fixed. Any issues with a lease or trying to sub-let a unit is nearly impossible, and they are not helpful at all.

I want to give Poplar Place a higher rating because I love the layout of my apartment, the location, the grounds, and the wonderful and friendly staff. But the apartments are just so poorly built and it's really caused problems for me.

First of all, I have several little dips in my floor throughout the apartment. Maintenance told me it's normal as that's where the seams of the floor boards are, but floors should be flat. I also had a massive actual hole in my floor for a few months. I knew the floor felt particularly loose in one spot, but I didn't know the extent of the damage

Overall, the place was okay for the price. I had one issue that left me unsatisfied shortly before my lease ended though. There was a large oak tree on a hill near the parking lot of the SS and TT buildings. Shortly after I moved into my apartment in the Fall of 2015, a large portion of the treetop fell off into an area with a dog-waste bag receptacle and a picnic table, smashing the table. They had the fallen limbs cleaned up (leaving the broken picnic table there for a year), but left the dangerous tree standing. About a year later, the oak tree went down during a storm and large branches landed

Lived here for 2.5 years.
I understand some of the problems folks listed here, including issues some of my neighbors had. I even had a roof leak once that caused some minor issues and took awhile to get repaired, but it wasn't unbearable. Considering the weather, it was understandable it took as long as it did to repair.
But the gripes about the personality of Leasing Office staff? I never experienced anything short of perfect civility and prompt responses to my inquiries. In my experience, if staff in any business give you attitude, more often than not it is because you approach them with

They are slow to fix non-essentials. The TV in the gym has not worked for 3 months. We didn't get pool furniture until mid August.
