The Barksdale Family, Staff, and Community are saddened by the passing of our beloved Peter F. Barksdale. Since the passing of his mother, the late Rebecca Holland Barksdale, Peter has strived to continue and honor the legacy of his mother. As his mother did he has given in abundance to the community, supported numerous religious organization endeavors, and was filled with love.
With this being her motivating life's motto, Rebecca H. Barksdale charted her course in life at the age of fourteen, when she knew within her heart that being a Funeral Director was what she wanted to be. More than two decades later, she was considered one of the most successful businesspeople in Detroit.
Over the past year and a half, my faith has truly been tested. It has not been easy to accept first the untimely passing of my brother, the late Peter Floyd Barksdale, and then less than a year later the passing of my father, the late William Barksdale, both truly dear to my heart. While I am sure that they are in a much better place resting in the arms of the Father, it has still been difficult to let go.
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.

Saying that Barksdale Funeral Home did an amazing job on my mother is an understatement. She looked so beautiful. I didn’t expect anything less. My father died in 2010 and they did an amazing job on him as well. Francine was so helpful, patient, and understanding during this most difficult time. The staff is very patient with grieving families. I'm so grateful they were very patient & understanding with my family. Ms. Bonnie gave us the time & space we needed for our loved one - just to say Goodbye our way. Thank you for your prayers, thank you for being personably with us in our pain. & thank you for supporting my mother as she tried to make sense of what was happening. God Bless You and your family.

My family and I thank Mrs. Barksdale-Neal, her daughter Asia, Aaron and the entire staff for their love and care they provided to us during our time of bereavement. From start to finish we felt compassion and gratitude. The viewing and reel that Ms. Asia put together was perfect a beauty to see upon entrance. The words of comfort Aaron spoke at the burial warmed our hearts. I am so grateful for the service received. Losing someone close to you is a hard process especially when you live far away. Soon as I got notice that my father had a prearrangement a weight was lifted. I immediately called to speak to Ms. B and she was very helpful. Ms. B is amazing and a natural.
