I would give zero starts if i could - the receptionist wouldn’t even let us in to discuss what we wanted - there was absolutely no one in the waiting area so she could’ve let us in - she was extremely rude. I asked if i could speak to one of the artist - she didn’t even acknowledge that. We walked away and we were prepared to spend a lot of money - she kept bringing up money and we kept saying money isn’t a problem. She should know that- who is going to go to tattoo shop and not have money to get it.

Won't honor their 1 year touch up policy.
Not only that but my tiny tattoo cost over $500. I recommend going to UpLift Tattoo, they are a much better tattoo shop that honors their 1 year touch up policy, their prices are much more fair, much more professional, and their artists are just as talented in fine line tattooing (if not more so) than West 4.

This was one of the best tattoo experiences I've ever had. Anthology did a piece for me that I've wanted done for a long time and he did an amazing job. Took everything minute he needed to to get it absolutely perfect. He was so kind and talked to me the whole time while also checked in on me several times to make sure I was comfortable. This was also one of my most expensive tattoos but it's the price you pay for a beautiful piece of art by someone so talented. I would highly recommend Anthony!!!

I was really excited to have my tattoo done here. However, I had an interaction with one of the employees managing the desk.
I was communicating with some of the staff up until the appointment. However, we were not allowed in. I did not realize that paying a deposit prior was an ultimatum.
All of that would have been fine if this specific employee wasn’t so rude to my sister. I felt as if she did not want us to come in at all. She rudely reminded us that the piercing deposit was $100 and that the tattoo deposit was $300. We understood prior to coming, yet she repeating that as if we could not

After a long time researching artists, I found Chris here through a friend who also got her tattoo here. Setting up the appointment was easy, the receptionist communicated with me very quickly and was a seamless process. The place itself is clean, easily accessible via subway. Warning for those with physical limitations (i.e., broken leg, wheelchair, etc.), this has stairs up for piercings and stairs down for tattoos, just FYI.

I went to Chang in 2018 for my first tattoo. The I got a small spider the size of a coin and I was charged $800 US. The design looked perfect but only for a week before it started fading. It's patchy and looks unfinished. It's as if he didn't press the ink deep enough into my skin. He told me to go back for a touch up but I live in Australia and left the country the day after the tattoo (which I had told him before the appointment). I'm very disappointed. Not worth the price AT ALL.

I have a love/hate relationship with west 4. The work is great. The prices are astronomical. Anthony is kind of all over the place and didn't have my sketch ready so I just sat there while he did it for over an hour. Then a couple hours into the tattoo he took another hour and half to do consultations!! Seven hours into the session we were still not done so I opted to leave for the night (because I was tired and starving), and come back, which I did today and took another three hours to finish the piece. Mind you, it's a small grey/black line work piece that is about three inches across

Do not waste your time or your money on this business. I sent them a picture of a tattoo I wanted. I had a zoom call with the artist to discuss the tattoo, I then Venmo'd the artist to secure my appointment. A week before my appointment I asked for a draft of my tattoo only to be ghosted by the company. On the day of my tattoo appointment I received a phone call stating that I couldn't be seen till 7 (appointment at 5). However, it seemed like she lost her patience with me very shortly after. Not once did I ask her to go back to the drawing board and do a completely different design from the mock-up. All of my requests fell within the general design of the initial mock-up, just different shading and colors.

Got my piercings done with Mona. She was super nice, very professional, and efficient with time. Very helpful with where I ultimately decided to get my piercings done. Mona was also very good at explaining aftercare and gave me a bottle of saline solution to clean my newly pierced ears. Amazing service!

I mainly went for Mona to pierce and she's so friendly that I'm willing to go to her again! The atmosphere is very calming, though I find some layouts for tattooing on the lower floor to be odd. It's pretty sanitary and everyone who comes in and out uses the hand sanitizer without any notice, which I find to be so efficient and considerate of everyone! Highly recommend here for Mona for piercing in NYC if you’re there!

I'm writing this after a few months of getting my tattoo with Anthony. Let me preface this by saying I got my first tattoo from here which is gorgeous, and was done by a professional artist. This is why I came back for my second tattoo and tried out Anthony since the other person was no longer there.
I gave Anthony references to a snake tattoo I wanted in our virtual consultation. He quoted me $1050, which was fine, considering I wanted the tattoo to be large and had shading. He said he would draw me something ORIGINAL, not exactly the tattoo I sent him. Sound good right?

I went here for my first ever tattoo and was practically scammed out of hundreds of dollars for a very small tattoo which is now practically fading.
It was my first time so I didn't know much and they wanted to charge me over $800, luckily I was able to negotiate down a little but was still insanely overcharged. I could've gotten the same thing done but better for 33% of the cost (no joke). If they tell you "it's a hard area to tattoo," don't believe them.

Book with him (Anthony on the booking site) as soon as you can. His talent is IMMACULATE; cannot be denied. This past week I got my second tattoo from him and everyone that I've shown couldn't believe how clean his lines are. Tony makes you want to come for the tattoo, but stay for the company. It was a pain-free experience for me due to his feather touch with the needle and conversation came naturally.

I got a tattoo done there by Uno. I spent about 900$ on a tattoo that took 30 minutes to complete and it didn't look good when I stood up. She had me bend my arm odd and I know that's why the tattoo I got looks warped.
But the BIGGEST issue for me is when I had originally got to the shop, I was under the impression I was going for the tattoo to be done, but to my surprise I spent money on gas and tolls for a 5 minute consultation that could've been done via FaceTime.... especially with covid
Anywho, I was bummed to leave with nothing

My review is a year overdue but I felt compelled to write it after seeing some posts on Instagram. I've been reviewing Chang's IG for some time and I finally got to visit NY so I booked an appointment right away. I wanted my tattoo on my upper wrist but he ended up talking me out of it saying that it was a hard area to tattoo. On top of that he talked me out of the design I wanted too. I trusted that he knew what he was doing. I ended paying $500 for this POS that I hate. The design I chose was $180. They didn't allow my friend to come in with me because she wasn't getting a tattoo. There was a long time of people outside and inside the store. Some people waited up to 3 hours and still couldn't get a tattoo. I waited about 1 hour because my artist didn't have as long of a line.
The whole process was only 10 minutes. I wish

Came here to get my first tattoo from guest artist Yeonho from South Korea. Yeonho was absolutely amazing and my tattoo has healed very nicely - couldn't have asked for a better experience for my first tattoo. Granted this review is more for my amazing guest artist, but the fact that they have such quality and professional guest artists speaks volumes about their own store.

Awesome place. Cool vibe. Tattoos are kinda pricey but I love the fine line look. I got two tattoos here and in total it was $850. Got mine done by Chang and he was super detail-oriented and fun to talk to. He advised me a lot about the tattoo I got on my hand and was very helpful in placing it in the best spot to avoid fading as much as possible. They play good music and all the staff there is the stereotypical NYC "hip" but they're really, really nice and efficient. Alsothey take really good pictures after and send them to you.
