Jim Smith Karate has been in business since 1973, under the direction of Hanshi Jim Smith, who has been bringing Westchester and Putnam County the very best in martial arts instruction in the style of Goju-Te Karate. Although our techniques are based on century-old knowledge, it is our application of that knowledge that sets Jim Smith Karate apart.
Our instructional methods allow students to develop a strong foundation in basic skills, and gives them the opportunity to strengthen their natural physical abilities in order to maximize their self-defense skills. Classes are taught by certified black belt instructors and we boast a 5:1 student/teacher ratio.

A textbook definition of what an amazing martial arts dojo should be. The instructors are all experts in their craft and treat everybody like family. The students are all given top-notch instruction during both group and individual training. Students of all ages (toddlers, kids, teens, and adults all have a place here) learn an excellent style of karate that is very effective for self-defense, while also promoting confidence, respect, and building physical & mental strength.

My son has been going to JSK for about 4 months and I can’t say enough. He’s not the easiest kid (hyper!), yet the entire staff here are incredibly patient, understanding, and helpful. There’s a great balance of fun and firm in every lesson. Putting him here 3x/week is one of the best decisions we’ve made. He’s now taking his lessons in a bit more, and we see it when he wants to show off for family and friends at home. He’s making us proud and learning all the way through.

A huge part of my life growing up was spent at Jim Smith Karate. And looking back on it I can say it was some of the best times of my life. The staff is incredible, the training is unparalleled, and the experience is unbelievable. Learning martial arts here would be the greatest decision that you can make for you or your child.

My Sons have been going here since January 2014 and let me tell you from day one the discipline and the structure is exactly what they needed. While the school prides itself on that it's also a very inviting place that kids actually want to be at! My 12 and 9 year olds are enjoying every moment at Jim Smith! Everyone at the school is great and the attention afforded to every student from white to black belts is top notch! The monthly fee is also reasonable plus no contract so your not tied down but the rewards are immense! Try a class I'm sure your kids will love it!
