Century Mill Supply
For over 160 years, we've been Southern Ontario's preferred source of unique soft and hardwood lumber. With a wide range of woods from domestic softwoods such as douglas fir and western red cedar to exotic hardwoods like lacewood, mahogany and wenge, we are sure to have the wood you need for your next project.

Explore our array of domestic and exotic hardwoods, as well as various timbers, decking and specialty items. We offer an array of different mill services such as planing, glue-ups, custom hardwood flooring and table-tops.
Services
Century Mill Lumber began over 160 years ago in 1851 when William and Sarah Ratcliff, recent immigrants from Essex, England, purchased 140 acres of prime woodlands in what is now known as Stouffville, Ontario. Ideally situated by the Rouge River, a water mill wheel was built to harness the power to run the sawmill to produce sufficient lumber for the surrounding communities.
At Century Mill Lumber, we sell almost all of our products in the rough, but are aware that not all customers have the necessary tools to get the material "ready to use", which is why we offer an array of shop services. Century Mill's shop charges a rate of $95/hour and the typical lead time can range anywhere from 3 days-3 weeks, depending upon the complexity of the project.
Century Mill Lumber offers a wide array of unique lumber from domestic and exotic hardwoods such as macassar ebony, spanish cedar and bloodwood to the more popular softwoods such as douglas fir, western red cedar and eastern hemlock. Browse our online guide below to see the full range of products we offer.
Grading designation depends on the number of defects in a given length and width of hardwood boards. As with softwoods, a lower grade can be perfectly acceptable, depending on placement and usage. Hardwoods are graded by the National Hardwood Lumber Association. Here's a chart to help explain the grading system.

This was like a candy store for me seeing all the stuff available. Was tons of fun and Derrick was super helpful with getting what I needed. As I know wood isn't cheap right now, they were able to help provide a few options as to what I could go with to help me cut cost.
And on day of pick up, I was even able to find some great cut off that I got cheap. I had a small hiccup on my order which was essentially my own fault due to inexperience but Chris was absolute awesome and followed up with me the next day. I have to say their service is unquestionable, from the front office to the guys in the

We've ordered a few custom table tops from Century - walnut and white oak - they've been absolutely stunning and exactly what we were looking for. We'd highly recommend them!

Had a great experience purchasing lumber from Century Mill for a garden bed project. I received delivery of my purchase the next day from a very friendly driver. The hemlock I bought is good quality and the prices are reasonable. Thanks for the excellent service!

It’s a nice and rather friendly place. My only complaint: it’s getting harder and harder to communicate with them. It seems they don’t answer the phone any more, their mailbox is full emails don’t always get a response. They have stopped publishing prices on web. Past couple of times I needed to provide prices for custom builds to a potential client I ended up having to go there my self. I like going there cause I just love lumber yards but I still wish they would communicate better. I see too many business get detached from their grass root clients as they grow, I hope this isn’t happening

I've been coming here for years. Prices, selection and quality of lumber are fantastic. You might have to wait a little bit to get some assistance from staff, but it is definitely worth the wait. Staff is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite place to get lumber.

They certainly added a POS debit machine since the opening century ago. They have good variety of woods though it's kinda messy inside. They don't tag their products, there is a lot of price tags missing so you hear one price from the salesman and they charge you 2 times more and you may figure it out when it's late and you are already left. When you buy 8 footer pine you expect them all to be the same length. One was an inch shorter another 3 inches taller. Still staff are nice except the person in the office.

I had the pleasure to meet Chris Black from Century Mill online and by phone for a pergola project that I wanted to build. Not only Chris gave me the best price, he also sent me the best Red Cedar posts and boards. My contractor was very pleased with it and the final product was amazing! Chris treated me with professionalism and he was super friendly.
I had also a personal project to build a Red Cedar table for the patio and Chris sold me what I needed for the same price. He also gave me a free delivery. Many thanks Century Mill, Chris and staff!

Called Century confirm they had what I needed, let them know my wife and I would come down next day to pick it up. Drove an hour the next day to get there, they close at 2 so we arrived around noon. Sign on the gate says "Closed for inventory." No one could be bothered to mention that on the phone the day before? Or put a note on the website beside the permanent "closed for Family Day" banner? I ask if they can help us out with just the 4 pieces of what we need, but no. I ask why they can't close at the usual time (2pm) to do inventory, and the guy whines about having to

I purchased two maple slabs from this mill over the winter (they assembled them for me).

Both slabs experienced cracks along the entire length of the workpieces. When I contacted the mill, they advised me that "that is just the way that wood is" and that is due to the change in humidity in my workshop.

I have been a woodworker for over 60 years and I know exactly what is happening with the wood (look up honeycombing) and I also found out that there were other customers with the exact same issues, so what they are trying to tell me is complete and utter nonsense.

Eventually they agreed

Great customer service. Great selection of lumber. The prices are quite reasonable and competitive. The selection of rough lumber is great and they do stock tons of domestic and foreign hardwoods. Many of the hardwoods are also sold in "shorts" (8' or less) which is nice for smaller projects.
They also have various sizes of slabs and live edge pieces available, as well as turning stock. The slabs and live edge change constantly so grab the ones you like when you see them.
They do have some dressed lumber and can dress and glue pieces for you which is great if you don't have the equipment or space

I like this place. The business has been around and family owned for 160+ years, and offers a large variety of wood species for different projects. The entrance to this mill is off Stouffville Rd., but you'll need to drive southwards along a driveway which curves westwards towards the mill.

When I was in the mill they also offered some finished products (serving trays) for sale. These products appeared to be very well put together and I left wishing I could do the same type of job.

My experience at the mill was mainly a self-serve type of thing. I flagged down a staff member and said I needed
