Health doesn't magically happen during a 15-minute office visit. We take the time to listen. We take the time to teach. We take the time to make sure the patient understands. At Clara's House we provide comprehensive, compassionate medical services that address the needs of the whole person. Our entire staff is made up of volunteers. We are always seeking medical providers, Spanish translators, and volunteers for a variety of other projects.
Services
Clara's House is a no-cost clinic for people without health insurance. Appointments are available for men and women, without respect to race, culture, ability to speak English, or spiritual beliefs. In addition to primary care medical services, we offer health seminars in diabetic education, nutrition, chronic disease self-management, and health promotion.
We started out in a 685 square-foot office on J street in 2010. We were so cozy there that we took blood draws in the hallway. Three years later, we moved to our 1000 square-foot larger K Street location across from Sutter's Fort. We now have twice the space of our K Street office and are located on the second story of Pioneer Church on the other side of Sutter's Fort.
Rooted in the Franciscan vision, we believe all persons are entitled to basic and comprehensive health care. Guided by Franciscan values, Clara's House provides no-cost holistic and comprehensive primary health care to the poor and underserved who do not have access to any other governmental or private insurance medical programs.
We provide nearly all services in English or Spanish. Spanish-speaking translators are available for the small number of services provided in English. We do not take Medi-Cal, Medicare, or other insurance. If you have Medi-Cal you may be able to receive services through Sacramento County at Sacramento County Health Center.
Clara's House offers various types of volunteer opportunities, some short-term, most longer-term. A few activities are limited to the task, and can end when the task ends, although there are generally other opportunities available. Most activities require training at the clinic, e.g., on use of the patient records software and paper records and forms.
