Services
In the late 19th or early 20th century the building was updated for use as a warehouse by the massive California-based wood supplier The West-Side Lumber Company. Midtown Lumber first opened its doors in 1962 and served many of the changing neighborhood's bohemians, artists, and photographers.
Many of the artists were eventually priced out of the neighborhood and replaced by a flock of small businesses, often computer shops who came to Midtown Lumber for materials to build the shelving and desks needed to display their latest tech.In the early 2000's Chelsea began experiencing a resurgence as a high-end residential neighborhood and a center for commercial enterprise.

Our Lumber Yard in Jersey City is stocked with building materials and lumber available for bulk orders and same-day delivery. Our warehouse is located in an Urban Enterprise Zone! Call us to schedule a pick up from our warehouse in Jersey City, or get it delivered to your job site in New Jersey and pay a reduced rate of only 3.5% sales tax!
The actual dimensions of the lumber are listed in ( ) check out this blog post and chart for more details. It is known for it's even layers and voidless core. Usually, clients like the exposed ply look of Baltic Birch and choose not to edge tape it. More info on Baltic Birch Ply here. Melamine is also known as White Composite Board and is made out of compressed chips of wood with a white melamine coating on either side.
1. Quantity of each cut needed. 2. Thickness & type of wood. 3. Dimensions (we cut precisely to within 1/16 of an inch - all measurements must be in inches and fractions). 4. Please specify if you have any grain direction preference. For example: (2) pieces of 1" Canadian Birch 18" x 18" and (3) pieces of 1/2" Canadian Birch 36" x 42".
Be sure to include the type of material and exact measurements for your custom cut lumber pieces. For example: (2) pieces of 1" Canadian Birch 18" x 18" and (3) pieces of 1/2" Canadian Birch 36" x 42". Once your order is confirmed, we will add it to the cutting cue. Lead times vary, but we will always give you a timeline for your order and call you as soon as it is ready for pick up.

I had an awful customer experience today at the Chelsea location. So disappointing, b/c it is very close to my home and very convenient for me. I can't disparage the business, or lie and say they aren't great at cutting and delivering custom lumber. But I can tell you about my awful experience.
On 12/18/21, I purchased a sheet of 3/4" thick pine and had 8 custom 2x4's cut to 23 inches

I really needed wood cut for a home repair and was running around the area until a hardware store recommended Midtown Lumber to me and I’m beyond grateful their suggestion. I know it was close to closing but I contacted the store and Zach answered the phone and confirmed that they had what I needed and were able to cut it to the size I needed. Upon arrival, Zach talked me through my options and guided me to receiving exactly what I needed. It was a wonderful experience and he was beyond attentive and helpful. I had quite the catastrophe. I snapped a wood joist on my bed frame - thinking one too many Bk Bagels . Took in the broken piece and the staff at midtown lumber helped me out cutting a new one to repair. Super quick, easy, and helpful. And they even included an extra member! Will definitely be going back.

A gem of a find in the middle of Chelsea! I had two cabinet doors I needed resizing, which David had done for me in less than 24hours.
I went home and due to no fault of theirs, both doors were 1/16" too wide, so I took them back and they trimmed on the spot for me, no questions asked.
Great service and would definitely recommend!

Shopping with Midtown lumber for my specialty project was an above and beyond experience. They were so kind, responsive, transparent and helpful! Their customs cuts were perfection and my project would not have been the same without their help. Living in NY you know how unwelcoming and unprofessional most big chain hardware stores can be. It can really damper your creativity and motivation to tackle a DYI project at home. My positive experience with Midtown lumber has my mind whirling with more ideas for my home. I will be using their services for as long as I am in the city. Highly recommend!

I came in near the end of the day, and they were busy, but i got attention right away. Initially the guy was saying he might be able to get my project cut by the end of the day, but more likely the next day.
But the guy i gave the order to went and got the production crew to do it right away! Amazing
Walked away happy, with some high quality Canadian Birch and a very reasonable price.

I was leery about ordering a piece of wood sight unseen. I needn't have worried, Dave responded to my quote request with a price for the size I needed cut and a time estimate. I picked it up the next day and was not disappointed the wood was great quality, accurately cut and exactly what I needed. I can definitely recommend them.

So I needed some wood for shelves in the new apartment and was going to hit up my beloved HD, but learned I'd have to go outside of the city. Not a HUGE deal but had a Friday to run errands so trying to be as efficient as possible. Found ML randomly on Yelp and am glad I did! The space is raw - you feel like you're walking in somewhere you shouldn't but the guys are nice. Anyway - delivery is expensive so it made more sense to get a cab. But I paid for three pieces and they gave me four - I only realized when I got home (been a long week, sue me)! Thank you for the nice wood, FAST

This place is great! I needed a small piece of wood for my closet and they were very helpful in describing the different types of wood. I also messed up on the size and had to return. they were happy to cut it for a very small fee. The guys are that work there are also really nice. I'll be back for sure when I need more material for other projects.

Their lumber quality, cut accuracy, and price just can't be beat. I ordered via email and they had my order ready the next day.
One thing though--their customer service in-store was pretty slack. They just put the lumber in front of me and said "here" and then continued to chat amongst themselves. Still giving them 5-stars because their customer service during the ordering process was fantastic and I got exactly what I asked for.

So happy to have found these guys. So friendly, so fast and saved my life by cutting 14 sheets of plywood right before they closed.
They also delivered it.
I would have rated them five but the price for cutting was double the price other spots had quoted me. The plus was I didn't have to rent a van to leave the City.
Home depot is more affordable on the base price but for my time and the ease it was nice.
Plus the cuts were cleannnnnnn!!!
