Santa Rosa Optometry was founded by Dr. Michael C. Shulkin, OD in 1990 after he spent 7 years working for several optometrist all around San Diego. We are a traditional, family based practice focused on individual care with an easy going atmosphere and we try to have fun at work.
I practice all phases of optometry including pediatric, contact lenses (soft, gas permeable, keratoconus, bifocal (both soft and gas permeable), toric, and most hard to fit modalities), eye disease treatment and management, pre-op and post-op surgical co-managment, dry eye disease and management, as well as general optometric eye care for all ages.

They are absolutely terrible with answering their phones. Most recently, I have called no fewer than 10 times on three different days without them picking up yet - no answering machine service either. It hasn't been much better before this too - very unprofessional. I find Dr. Shulkin to be rude, as well. I will find a new optometrist for the future.

I have been to this office 2 times for exams and glasses! I have never had an issue with the Doctor NOR his staff, they are always smiling, happy and VERY helpful. Received my glasses when i was told i would and i have partnership and they never made me feel any less! I totally would recommend this doctor.

I’ve wasted so much time just trying to get ahold of anyone here. The main receptionist (the older, larger one) is disinterested in helping people, won’t let you speak to the Doctor directly and obviously doesn’t relay messages about your concerns, when you request a call back. Plus the automated system drops every call right after, “Please leave your message”. I’m driving down there... getting my prescription and moving on.” I hope this helps. Sorry to the nice people that work here.

So getting my glasses and the prescription was great no hiccups I was pregnant when I got them (my baby stole my perfect vision) then after having my baby my sight got even worse but my insurance company didn’t want to pay for a new prescription cause it had not been a year however I asked the girl if she would call and explain the matter to the insurance company and after she did they covered them but then the inevitable happens my boy steps on my glasses breaking the arm I didn’t have $60 for new ones but they said to bring them on in to have a look see if something could be done and to my

WORST OFFICE EVER!! I believe they are doing fraud there. They give you an exam and never order your glasses. If you suspect fraud, too, call your Insurance Co. or the CA Medical Board and report. Also, they have the Worst customer service of any office. The office staff is either rude, hangs up on you, doesn't help you, or puts you on hold forever. They never even ordered my glasses and kept lying about it. Eventually, I had to turn them into my insurance for fraud.

The doctor is great but the staff has been difficult, at times, to deal with. I had alot of trouble getting the correct prescription made and am not sure why this keeps happening. Now I have lost my glasses and am waiting for them to give me a copy of my Rx...will report back if they can get it to me as I need them to drive.
