If you are new to the South End Community Health Center and need a primary care provider (PCP), please call us at 617-425-2000. We work with each patient to identify the right PCP match. No one likes waiting at the doctor's office! Your health is important, and your time is valuable. To help make your SECHC visit run smoothly, we are now scheduling a check-in time 20 minutes prior to your appointment.
This early check-in allows time for you to register and for a team member to review your medications, record your vital signs, and take care of any necessary preparations before you see your provider. You will be informed of your check-in time when you schedule your appointment. We look forward to seeing you!

REVIEW is of the Optical Shop only!
STAFF: The ONLY reason that I come here is for the outstanding service of the staff. Kevin is the most patient optician with which I have ever worked. He lets me take as much time as I want to pick out my frames, lens coatings and tint. He will adjust my frames, to my ears, as many times as I need. Then, sincerely tell me to come back, for another adjustment, if it isn't 100% right.
THE DEAL: The waiting room can be a bit noisy, with children, due to the WIC office next door. But the exceptional staff service is well worth the trip!

I’ve finished my counselling sessions and I can’t recommend the Center highly enough. The help and tools they have given me to move on with my life after cancer. And to come to terms with what had happened. They adapted well to still help people during lockdown and knowing that you have that weekly call was an added bonus during a difficult time.

This is when you see the inmates running the institution. During Covid I ordered the most expensive glasses you can find to have my script in.
All the works and they could do it!!! Yay!
Cash first... % down. Ok ?
350$ who ? What? They said 2 weeks. I called in two weeks to the minute.... they replied we will call you back.
The glasses came back with an imperfection he explained so I sent them back. For another week.... if I had a dime for every time I heard that excuse .
I got a phone call: your glasses are here!!! One week later hooray I was so excited to where them . Live on the

This review is for the OPTICAL SHOP only. I went in today to get my frames adjusted (they were purchased from another frame shop) and the person who assisted me was very professional, helpful, and was willing to assist me despite never being a patient at this shop! I was given helpful insight as well about the drawbacks in purchasing eyewear from places like Warby Parker. I'd definitely recommend this shop and was impressed by the staff and knowledge! Thank you again!!

This review is for the South End Community Health Center Optical Shop. I had the pleasure of dealing with both Anghelo Guevara and Kevin Sliva at the SECH Optical Shop. WOW! Great experience. Excellent customer service and professionalism. Kevin went to great lengths to fit new lenses into an old frame of mine. Ultimately, he informed me that my existing frame was beyond repair and could not be saved. I was very impressed with the efforts he undertook nonetheless. The optical shop has a great selection of designer eyeglass and sunglass frames. They offer great lens technology at fair prices. I

The SE Community Health Center Pediatrics Department is exceptional. The nurses are so kind and knowledgeable and great with my daughter. I can't say enough about the care and time the Doctors take for their patients. Dr Riseberg is incredible, she takes time with her patients and has been so helpful to me as a first time mom. We've seen a couple other pediatricians here as well, including Dr Sweder who is very patient and also great with making kids feel less scared when sick at the Dr. They follow up to check on my kiddo after she's been in for a sick visit too. It's really

Instead of going to the ER, I wanted to go to an urgent care to get a quick blood test to determine my condition first. I was able to see a Nurse Practitioner (NP) on the same day and it was a generally pleasant experience, which was a positive and hence a two star. However, I clearly indicated that I was not feeling well, and was hoping to get the results from the test ASAP in order to determine whether or not a ER visit was warranted. I called the next day (waited a full 24 hours) and was told that the lab was ready and that I could only get the results from the NP I saw, and was assured that

I have a PCP, who was unavailable today. So I called around to Urgent Care centers to see if they could do XYZ procedure, or should I go to the ED. This place tells me, 'oh, yeah, come in & see So & So, she can do that.' Perfect. Who want's to go to the ED, right? I arrive on time, the gals at the desk are fantastic (it wasn't the 1601 Washington St. location which should have been a clue)- and the medical professionals I see are wonderful. I get into the exam room and find out So & So (who is great) can't do XYZ procedure- specifically what I was there for

My review is for the OB/Gyn department in south end community center. I want to thank Lisandra, for being so kind and providing a quick appointment for me based on my needs and situation. I also want to thank Julia Bojanwski the midwife there for taking me in during such a crucial time and being as helpful as possible. The entire staff was wonderful and I am so glad that I made the switch here.

This review is for the Optometry team at the S.End Community Health Center. The optometrist are so nice and helped me find a frame that really fit my face. They did such a great job that when the glasses broke, I couldnt find anything that fit my face as well. I ended up having to re-order the frames else where and they still helped me fit them to my face. They are really nice and great at their jobs. I highly recommend them!

I recommend highly Kevin Myers, NP (Nurse Practitioner ...I didn't even knew the abbreviation ) which beside his medical knowledge has what we need when Good human approach.
I had very good experience Insurance Coordinator with Rhina Betances which helped me dealing bureaucracy and Jose Taveras
Its not private clinic but more a real community center so I really

I told myself I was not going to review this place but I'll post the pros and cons.
I've had experience from a handful of departments. This last one that kinda nudged me too far was with optometry.
I went in there 2 years ago. The students spent good amount of time on me, then the doc came in and went over everything. I got a prescription and took it to get glasses. Once glasses arrived it was obvious they were off. Not because of the glass maker but because of inaccurate prescription.
I should say these are my first pair of glasses and I have astigmatism.
I went in again a year

Review of Urgent Care.
I only went to SECHC Urgent Care out of convenience as it's near my work and I didn't have the time to get over to my regular provider. Never again.
The Positive:
While check-in did take awhile, the receptionist was really nice and had great customer service skills, which resulted in me not minding standing there waiting. After check-in I was only in the waiting room for about ten minutes before getting called in. I really liked the medical assistant who took my vitals and whatnot. She spent a lot of time with me and asked important questions.
The Negative

Make sure you are getting the value you're paying for from your health insurance and DO NOT COME HERE. I made the mistake several other people made and got my healthcare here for 2 years because it was conveniently located for me. My notes are:
1) I hope you're not in any hurry to get your medical issues resolved because you can expect a month's wait before each appointment, even a follow up. If you're looking for a referral you can expect another month or two to schedule that appointment. To review, that's 2-3 months to get an appointment with a specialist.

Every time I always hesitate to schedule an appointment at SECHC due to long waits, lack of knowledge of referral sources, and in general, a lower quality of care. I only go to the center because it is very close to where I live.
I have premium health insurance that I pay a LOT of money for each month, so I think it is fair to expect premium care. Perhaps this is not realistic, or as my experience might suggest, I am not the target patient demographic. So I was disappointed to see that the person who would be seeing me would be an RN only, as I expect an MD who has received years of training

The facility is clean, the doctor was friendly and informative, and I was seen promptly. There was almost no one here when I arrived which was good, because the telephone/receptionists made a mistake last month with my insurance. This needed to be corrected before I could see the doctor, and surprisingly, was handled promptly within 7 minutes.
I saw Dr. Thomas Sterne: 5 stars.
He also will call me with the results of my blood work for convenience.
I then saw a lab technician/nurse to have a routine blood draw. I jokingly said that I am a baby with needles. I sensed her tension go up an she insisted
