The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR), pronounced /fr/, builds public-private partnerships to support bold science. Our research, co-created with the agriculture community, fills critical research gaps. We also invest in the future scientific workforce. We support pioneering science to provide everyone access to affordable, nutritious food grown on thriving farms.
We connect funders, researchers and farmers through public-private partnerships to support audacious research addressing the biggest food and agriculture challenges. Our world is changing rapidly. Farmers are facing extreme weather, diminishing natural resources and a growing global demand for their crops.
We've come a long way since we were established in 2014, yet our commitment to funding bold science remains the same. Congress established FFAR in the Agricultural Act of 2014 with bipartisan support and the Farm Bill is signed into law by President Obama. Then USDA Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the creation of FFAR and appointed a 15-member board of directors.
Our Soil Health research develops sustainable on-farm practices from the ground-up, creating innovative solutions to improve soil health from measurement to adoption. This research supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), 17 global goals to enhance peace and prosperity, eradicate poverty and protect the planet.
The Sustainable Water Management Challenge Area research enhances and protects natural waters to sustain agricultural production and environmental health. Advancing models to improve decision support and management under changing climate conditions. Integrating long-term water monitoring programs and new research projects to improve agricultural management.
