The school's roots date back to the creation of the New Bedford Independent Industrial School in 1908. When the school opened in 1909, the school served only 59 students, all from New Bedford. In 1918, our school's name was changed to New Bedford Vocational School. In 1946, the name was changed to New Bedford Vocational High School.
The purpose of the history and social science curriculum at Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech is to provide students the knowledge, skills, and judgment to make responsible and just decisions as citizens of this nation and to understand world issues. Students study history, geography, economics, and civics and government to help understand and place in perspective the people, ideas, and events that have shaped our state, nation, and the world.
Our mission at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School is to provide education that is rigorous, relevant, and meaningful to each student in a safe and supportive environment, resulting in academic, career and technical excellence. This experience encourages lifelong learning, fosters mutual respect, and instills social responsibility, respect for diversity, and responsible citizenship.
GNB Voc-Tech accepts students from both public and private school who reside in either New Bedford, Dartmouth, or Fairhaven. An eight-member School Committee sets policy for the district. Four of its members are appointed by the Mayor of New Bedford. Two each are appointed by the Town of Dartmouth and the Town of Fairhaven.
Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School fosters an inclusive environment that values the diversity of our community and respects individual differences. All are embraced, celebrated, and treated equitably. In support of the school's mission, we invite and encourage applications from those who welcome diversity and strive to create an environment that embraces all members of the community.

I have been here for 4 years and have given my heart and soul and also have helped many teachers and students, yet they have the audacity to make fashion design a 2 year shop instead of 4. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!! Other then that i say its ight nothing more nothing less ( plus if you want to be a teacher, students are very kind and do not throw chairs ). #GOBEARS #2018
