I am very disappointed with this travel agency, specifically their handling of birthright extension process. My child processed all the paperwork as instructed to obtain the extension of travel after completion of birthright trip, and staying for an internship in Tel Aviv. There were confirmation emails from the Gil travel representative that the extension would be confirmed within 5 business days, yet no response followed for 3 weeks; at which point, there was no way to extend the travel and required cancellation and booking of a separate ticket, accruing significant expense.

I had my wedding in Israel and had the pleasure of using Gil Travel to plan travel and accommodations for all of our guests. Every single guest was thrilled with their experience and gave the Gil Travel team rave reviews. From the hands on customer service (which is rare these days!), to the wonderful attention to detail in planning each bespoke trip and daily outing, our experience was nothing short of extraordinary. This review pertains only to Birthright Group Travel Experiences, facilitated by Gil Travel: My trip participants and I found that this agency has strict rules and works with thousands of traveler for Birthright Israel. You should be sure to pay close attention to fine print from your Birthright trip provider and from Gil so as not to be surprised with what you can or cannot change for your flights. We found airline changes more expensive when booked through Gil than through the airline's Tel Aviv office. Gil does not offer customer service around the clock, which in my opinion, is unacceptable

I used them for extending my Birthright trip. They got my flight changed within a few days to the date I wanted, while some of my friends waited until they arrived in Israel to see if they can try contacting the airline directly to change their flight, they ended up paying like $250 and didn't even get the flights they wanted, while I only paid $165 via Gil Travel and did get the date I wanted, because I booked in advance.

I would also give this agency 0 stars if I could. It is very unfortunate that Birthright partners with them for extensions. When everyone gives them one star, it certainly means they are doing something wrong. I would not recommend to anyone, unless you want horrible, rude, and unprofessional service. They overprice and take advantage of students trying to extend with Birthright.

I started with Contact Us on their website. I received an email in response, and I provided details for a proposal for a group trip. I was told that the trip planner would get back to me upon her return from vacation, which would be soon. I waited 10 days, and wrote again. I received an email asking a few more questions, with an assurance I'd receive a quick reply. I waited another several days, I wrote again, and received no response. They clearly don't want my business.

We have been to Israel and to Spain with Gil Travel and have had fabulous experiences. they always answered our emails in a timely manner, worked with us to schedule extra nights in hotels when we wanted them, and sent us a long list of things to do after the tour is over. Their tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and personable as are the scholars that accompany their tours.

Wow. If I could, I'd give Gil Travel 0 stars. Do not recommend to anyone. Who uses travel agents these days, anyway? Especially with sites like Priceline / Orbitz / etc?
1) Old school
Paper files? Only one person in the office had access to my file. When I would call for information on my trip, they couldn't look it up on a computer and provide me info I needed. If I had a question, my file had to be "tracked down", and sometimes I would not get a response for days. I can overlook this if their customer service was good. But... See #3
