Standard's mission is to make No-Gi Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grappling available to everyone. Standard Jiu Jitsu is an up and coming no-gi program located in Rockville, MD. The programs at Standard BJJ are designed as complete grappling programs with something to offer every practitioner, from the beginner to the advanced student.
Our instructor Greg Souders is a black belt under 3rd degree black belt Dave Jacobs. Greg started training Jiu-Jitsu in February of 2004 and very quickly fell in love with the art. Greg's initial focus when starting jiu jitsu was to become a world champion black belt but his competition career was cut short due to a neck injury that caused serious spinal cord damage.
We offer No-Gi classes where practitioners can develop their grappling skills without the use of the traditional uniform, explore the world of leg locks, and learn the basics of wrestling. Our submission grappling class will allow each practitioner to learn the fundamentals and how to apply their skill sets in a larger array of scenarios to help develop a complete and deeper understanding of submission grappling.

Okay, so I’m not even a member yet and I’m going to rave about this place. Usually I would wait to leave a review until after I was here for a while, but I had an epic first experience here and felt the need to share for any beginners looking to get into Jiu Jitsu, like I am.
I bring in my two year old daughter with me to inquire about information. It was open mat when we walked in. I was instantly invited to roll with someone and three separate people helped watch my two year old as she watched frozen and I practiced with someone. How cool is that?
I’m new to Jiu Jitsu so was just kind

At the end of the rainbow is the best Brazilian Jiu-jitsu school in the DC area. I've been taking jiujitsu since 2004. When I moved here in 2016, I had a hard time finding a school that matched the intensity and great training of my previous academy in New York ..... until I went to Standard BJJ in Rockville. Greg is one of the best instructors I have ever trained with and easily the best one in the DC area. His students consistently win tournaments and it's easy to see why. It is a great training program, and you get better every time you train (while also getting the best body you've ever had

HOLY SMOKES ... just trained with Greg Souders at Standard BJJ. Smartest BJJ coach i have spoken to. Runs a very organized class and is a plethora of knowledge. He does both gi and nogi ... and is a great leg locker (which i want to learn). I am about to transfer from Boston to Washington DC (in the Army) and he let me train for free. Looking forward to joining is gym ASAP Rocky.
Thanks Greg ... you're the best brother.

Best BJJ Ive ever been too. Coach Greg and his team were extremely welcoming. I was in town for a week and they accommodated me like a five star hotel. Talented and humble practitioners, I wish I was here longer to train because iron is sharpening iron, and the standard is the standard at Standard BJJ.

The name Standard BJJ speaks for itself---setting the standard, high. My kids and husband trained at another facility prior to joining Standard, and since joining three weeks ago, everyone can see a dramatic improvement in their overall training and confidence. A major difference in terms of PROFESSIONALISM, coaching, techniques, culture and did I mention professionalism? It's refreshing to be apart of a culture that doesn't look at you and all they see or care about are dollar signs. The owner Greg, is a black belt instructor and a stand up human being with integrity, who only cares about teaching

I may not have a lot of experience to compare Standard to a variety of other gyms, but I know Standard BJJ is amazing. I had never been in this environment before, but Greg and everyone else in the gym were extremely welcoming when I first joined here. Stepping on the mat for the first time, especially as a girl, can be intimidating, but I never felt like that here. Not to mention these classes are by far the hardest yet most rewarding workouts I've ever had. As an instructor, Greg is amazing. He's certainly helped me improve my game, and he's an amazing resource to learn from, when it comes to

I was lucky enough to work with Greg and the Lineage team early in my Brazilian Jiu JItsu career. They have given me a strong foundation in both technical and conceptual understanding of BJJ. Even though I have moved out of the area I am always looking for a reason to drop in and get pushed to the limits.
If you are looking for a school to start your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey in Rockville Maryland, there is no better place. They have a great and clean facility, very welcoming and a bunch of students starting their journey you can learn with. And as you get better there are a bunch of experienced

Coming to visit lineage BJJ proved to be a great experience for me, and one I would recommend to anyone interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Coach Greg does an exceptional job running class and teaching technique that works at the highest levels of competition. He also emphasizes a competitive yet team-oriented atmosphere. Every member of the gym was welcoming and willing to help others improve. The gym consists of jiu-jitsu practitioners at every level, from those who are just looking to get in shape or work on self-defense to extremely high level competitors. I would highly recommend Lineage BJJ

Started training at Lineage Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu last February after trying a couple different gyms in the area and knew immediately it was the right place for me. Greg Souders, the owner and head instructor at Lineage, is by far the best coach I have ever worked with. While he is an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable BJJ practitioner, what sets him apart is his incredible drive to make sure all of his students are constantly improving. He takes a far more focused and structured approach to practice that other coaches I have worked with, and is great at breaking down each technique and explaining

Lineage Brazilian Jiu Jitsu located in Rockville, MD is the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in the area. The focus is on nothing more than learning the techniques, understanding the concepts behind the techniques and putting it all together in a positive and friendly atmosphere. Having trained Jiu Jitsu for 3 years at a couple of different gyms, I have found the secret to success is simply about having an instructor who can conceptually break down the moves and explain them in a way that reaches all of the students in a gym. Greg is an intelligent individual who has the ability to explain the techniques
