Teaching students the lifelong rewards of martial arts training within a diverse and welcoming community. Our goal is to provide the finest instruction in traditional martial arts using modern learning theory and techniques. TKA strives to help students develop strength, flexibility, coordination, and physical fitness.
You can start by checking out one of our classes where you can see students in action and meet one of our instructors! TKA teaches my children the rewards of applying yourself with dedication and confidence, all while providing an outlet for their never-ending stream of energy. The kids love their instructors and literally count down days until class.

For over 50 years, students at Tompkins Karate Association have traveled into the Blue Ridge Mountains for a week of community, traditions, competition, fun and hard work. It's a week many of us look forward to all year long! While our TKA family is unable to safely join together in person in the mountains this year, we couldn't bear the thought of skipping TKA Karate Camp 2020.
TKA is known for our excellent children's martial arts program. We've been teaching and evolving it for over 50 years and are widely regarded as one of the first martial arts programs accessible to kids. Kids learn discipline, respect, how to set and achieve goals, and have fun doing it all at a low price.
In addition to our children's martial arts classes, we offer a complete adult program as well. Adults come to us with a variety of goals in mind and whether yours are to earn a black belt in martial arts, learn self defense or simply to get active in a welcoming community - We have something for you!
No matter how long you've been training in the martial arts, there is always more to learn. No matter how many times you've practiced a technique, there is always opportunity for improvement. In addition to working towards advanced levels of black belt (2nd degree, 3rd degree, etc), we offer many avenues for further development as a martial artist.
REMINDER: You must have your head instructor's permission to test. If you do not have your instructor's permission, you will not be allowed to take this exam. Important: Select the proper exam location for your studio. Check the Exam Schedule page for specifics. You must register at least 2 days before your exam.

I feel like I am going to see my family and have fun every time when I take myself and my children for Karate class. I miss the TKA family badly as I am not registered for the last two sessions for being busy with school. I can’t wait to restart next Spring. I just registered my two children, one who has blue belt and the other one has a green belt. I have green belt as well.

TKA actually helped save my life...I lived on a farm and was attacked by an animal and all I could hear were Jake's words, " if you want to be a brown belt, act like a brown belt"...it helped keep me focused, I didn't panic and I survived! ...I love you Jake! Thank you so much to all those that got me through a white belt through third blue...my grandson just turned five and my son just moved to Montgomery county woo hoo! Guess who's going to be joining TKA!!!

TKA is a great organization. TKA has talented instructors that have years of experience and a wide variety of backgrounds. You get out of it whatever you put in. TKA is help each student and/or parent meet their goals, whether it's exercise, discipline, social environment, or just getting a deeper knowledge of martial arts and advancing through the ranks. I've seen a lot of other karate schools through the years and I can't say enough positive things about Tompkins Karate Association.
