The Pines located in Grass Valley, Ca on the famous Rough and Ready Highway has been some kind of business for over 100 years. The main house (now the front desk and owners home) was once a country store with the owners living quarters upstairs. Some time around 1910 or 1920 the 7 units on the back of the property along with the cottage were built.
All of our accommodations include WIFI, Cable, Air Conditioning, Iron, cooktop, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, full size fridge with freezer, full size kitchen sink, dishes, pots and pans and some with dishwashers. Complementary coffee, tea and Continental Breakfast in your room. Large quiet one bedroom with hardwood floors, 2 flat screens a fantastic kitchen with gas range and a dishwasher.
Built in 1862, the bridge was part of the Virginia Turnpike toll road serving the northern mines and the Nevada Comstock Lode. The Empire Mine is the site of the oldest, largest, and richest gold mine in California. From 1850 to its closing in 1956, it produced 5.8 million ounces of gold. The Park contains many of the original mine buildings, the owners cottage, and the restored gardens and grounds.

We were so fortunate to book this place for my nephew's wedding. Really responsive people, and very nice!
They provide a small kitchenette, and enough eggs for a small breakfast. The bed is huge and comfortable, and it feels very private.
They have good wifi, and Netflix.
Water pressure is on the low end, but sufficient, and they provided a nice array of toiletries.
We would definitely stay here again if we are in this area.

My brother and I recently stayed here kind of by accident. There was a large wedding in town the weekend we stayed and the place I normally go to was full. The Pines came recommended by another hotel in town. I am so glad we had the opportunity to visit! I will always be coming back to the Pines.
The cottage we stayed in was clean, super cute and has a fully usable kitchen.
There were thick robes and slippers for us. The 2nd morning of our stay there was an adorable little wire basket with fresh eggs, cheese, peppers and mushrooms placed on our patio!
There was homemade soap in the bathroom!

When I was looking for a place to stay for my beloved uncle's Celebration of Life, I was thinking 'cheap motel'. When I came across this cute little cottage, an idea began to form. We had family and close friends coming in from all over the country. This adorable little location had a barbecue and yards with ample seating and even corn hole. What about hosting a little gathering the night we all arrived before the funeral? We never get to see each other and it seemed like a great idea! I called to ask if the cottage was available and a family barbecue was an option. I spoke with

I had a wonderful and extremely relaxing time during my stay at The Pines Motel & Cottages! The room was so immaculate with all modern features, and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud! The grounds were absolutely charming with colorful flowers, and cozy sitting areas that glow with serene accent lighting at night. Everything was perfection and so well taken care of; and the staff could not have been nicer and more professional. Many thanks to Tony and James for a fantastic experience. I highly recommend this gem to anyone staying in Grass Valley, and I look forward to my next visit!

This place is PERFECT! Charming, clean, and well equipped. The air-conditioning is cold! The outside common area is peaceful and relaxing for a glass of wine or a beer in the evening. Very dog friendly. The owners are the added bonus, attentive but not too much. A previous review I read mentioned traffic noise, I didn't hear a sound all night. Walking distance (1/2 mile) to historic downtown! Close to river swimming hole. Did I mention fresh breakfast fixings left in the refrigerator for us? Yum!

Tony is awesome. So helpful. He supplied us with eggs, butter, mushrooms, and peppers for breakfast. Plenty of good coffee. It was a very pleasant stay. The heavily traveled road by the cottage is quiet at night. We slept like babies, and the mattress was perfect. Definitely staying there again when we visit Cousin Eddie.

We couldn't have been more pleased with our weekend at The Pines. Tony's service was top notch and his local expertise was impressive. He made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. He was extremely knowledgeable, responsive and attentive. We stayed at the lovely cottage #10 which was just the right amount of cozy and wonderful for me, my fiancée, and our pooch. The blazing outdoor fire pit was a great touch and the perfect end to a much-needed getaway. We look forward to returning sooner than later....

Stayed here with a friend. The room was very clean with modern luxuries and very high-quality amenities. The owners are friendly, considerate, and manage the place themselves. They have brought the standards and professionalism you'd expect of a major city hotel; while keeping the charm, quality, and quiet privacy of a small business in a luxury mountain town. A perfect blend of both worlds and very reasonably priced. Will be recommending this place to all my friends and family. Thanks Tony, we had a great stay and will be back

The Pines Motel is a Gold Country nugget! I have stayed at some of the best hotels in the world, and the vintage charm of the location belies the world class 5-star service they provide. Tony and Peter are impeccable European hoteliers in every sense of the word.
Fresh flowers on the porch for every guest, beautifully appointed rooms, organic and delicious snacks, hand milled soap and make-up remover. . .I wanted for nothing during my stay. The AC is so whisper quiet I had to check to see that it was on. In the evening, they light tea candles throughout the property to transform it into a magical

Great little place, very reasonable prices! Super clean, rooms are updated to look modern and cozy. Lots of snacks in room, all are complimentary...from bagels and cream cheese to a small Brita in the fridge. There's a great little grassy sitting area for guests and pets and the staff sets candles out in the evening. Staff is very kind and thoughtful, vibe is warm and welcoming. Highly recommend The Pines!

Let me just say that I am in love with this place! Stayed here for a weekend with my boyfriend and his dog and it was such a great experience. We met Tony who is the owner and he made our stay so great! We also met his two furry pets that got along great with our dog and they played in the grass area they have for dogs. I love that this place is dog friendly and how cute and quaint the cottages were set up inside. I will definitely be staying here again and seeing tony because I love the energy he brings to this lovely place.

We came here for a long wedding weekend for 3 nights. We had the cottage and it was just awesome! Super close to town but still a bit far enough for complete solace. The small kitchen was a big plus, even though we only used it for storage. Great ac kept the place cool in 98 degree weather! The grounds were super cute, but again we did not take advantage of those. The only comment is the bed, firmer is better please!
The proprietors are simply wonderful and pet friendly too! We will return!
