If medication is indicated and needed for your treatment the fee is the same you would pay for psychotherapy visits alone. I work individually with Young Adults and Adults up to age 65. I am Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology to provide psychotherapy and medication for a wide variety of emotional, behavioral, and psychological difficulties. Problems such as Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, and Relationship and Work Stress are all common reasons for seeking help from a psychiatrist.
Psychotherapy alone may be the preferred treatment for many people with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and adjustment difficulties (loss, medical illness, divorce, trauma, etc). For people who require medication to reduce symptoms the addition of psychotherapy is often associated with greater improvement and reduced likelihood of relapse of the illness.
Psychiatrists are the only mental health practitioners qualified to provide psychotherapy and medication treatment. While most psychiatrists in Charlotte, NC limit their practice to psychopharmacology (treatment with medication), and this may have colored your view of psychiatrists, it may well be worth your while to consult with a psychiatrist who is adept at providing psychotherapy as well as medication management.
Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is the diagnostic term used to describe the condition for children who refuse to follow directions, talk back to adults, have temper tantrums, blame others for their problems, and frequently lose their temper. Your child may have this disorder if these problems occurs at home and at school.
Learning Disabilities are a common reason for children to be unhappy at school and to resist doing some or all of their school work. Learning Disabilities can occur by themselves or may further complicate other problems such as ADHD, depression, or anxiety. A learning disability exists when a person has an unexpected problem learning certain types of information when it appears overall that they are intelligent enough to learn it.

Dr. Steinmuller is awesome. I was privileged to be his patient for approximately 3 years in the 90's during the failure of my business and marriage. He has an amazing ability to lead you into realizations about yourself through questions and conversation. The only reason I stopped going was losing my insurance coverage. He's empathetic and totally involved with every session unlike any other psychiatrist/counselor I've been exposed to. Never a superior, distant or judgemental attitude. I wish him the best.
