Z.A. Downs was the founder of one of the first funeral directing establishments in Superior, Wis. After being affiliated with Lodge and Whitney, a furniture and undertaking company, he went into business privately in 1888. He was first located in the Minnehaha Block between 11th St. & 12th St. on Ogden Ave. and then later moved to 16th St. & Tower Ave, where he served the community for ten years.

It may seem strange to rate a funeral home but I am doing it anyway. My mom recently passed which was devastating to our family. Fortunately, we worked with Downs Funeral Home and the staff there helped us so much. They were beyond professional and helpful and they made themselves available day and night if we had questions or concerns. They made an unbearable process much easier. They truly showed us respect and caring. I am not sure how we could have planned the service without their expertise. While I hope to not need them again for a very long time, it helps to know they will be there for us
