Services
The Schubert Funeral Home was founded in Eudora in 1904 and the Funk Mortuary was founded in Lawrence in 1909. The firms were merged in 1953 by Fred Cooper and Bill Warren and operated as Cooper & Warren until 1968 when Bill Warren purchased Cooper's interest. Larry McElwain started working as a night attendant while a student at the University of Kansas.

We selected Warren-McElwain when my father-in-law passed suddenly with no prearrangements. Audrey was incredibly compassionate, made sure to take care of everything, and helped us make sure everyone got an opportunity for closure. They were able to handle a natural burial, and their handling of everything was incredibly healing for our family. As a minister, I work with a lot of funeral homes. This one is one of the best.

Having not been back in town to Lawrence in many, many years, I was certainly relieved to see that the name I knew, Warren McElwain, was yet still providing their services. Upon the passing of my relation, and myself, being across the country at the time, I needed a trusted partner in the decision -making of final arrangements. I definitely appreciate the patient, thorough and unhurried support that Audrey provided after my dad's passing. He and my mother had not made prearrangements, but Audrey took us through the entire cremation process in a supportive and informative way. Mom was astonished that there was never a sense of hurry or of pressure! Audrey was a journalism champ to deal with the varied obituary policies of four different newspapers. We would highly recommend the staff and services of Warren McElwain Mortuary.

I have had the honor of officiating several funerals at Warren-McElwain. The staff are always professional and attentive to families' needs. They go the extra mile to serve people who find themselves at a very low point as they grieve their loved one. Sad to say but this was our second time using Warren McElwain in a year. They buried my mother last year and my father this year. Both times we had the pleasure of working with Audrey. I just can't say enough good things about her and the service she and the mortuary provided. It didn't matter what time day or night, weekday or weekend she was always available, answered all of our questions and was very empathetic and supportive. There was not a single detail that was not addressed and she took so many things into her own hands so that we were not burdened with contacting the army for

Audrey Bell and team at Warren-McElwain did an exceptional job when our relative passed away unexpectedly. During this extremely emotional time for us they were exceedingly professional & caring. Even when inadvertently our family arrived at our appointment time and another family was present at the funeral home discussing their needs--> Audrey Bell was able to balance the time between the two families and met our families expectations. They were extremely pleasant and accommodating.
