Most citizens will live their entire lives without being accused of a crime. So, when a citizen is charged with a crime, it is usually a very unfamiliar process for them. An experienced criminal defense attorney can assist in navigating the complicated criminal justice system and, more importantly, can make the system work for the citizen instead of against them.
Driving under the influence is one of the most unique criminal allegations that we defend. The reason for this is twofold. First, it is one of the only crimes that a person can be convicted based solely on the opinion of the officer; and second, it is probably the only criminal allegation that we see which transcends socioeconomic status.
In criminal law, there are two basic categories of crime; misdemeanors and felonies. In Tennessee, a felony offense is a crime that carries a punishment of more than one year incarcerated. But felony convictions can have a wide range of impacts on your life for many years to come. Therefore, while no criminal charge can be taken lightly, a felony charge can more, far reaching consequences.
Frequently when a person is convicted of or pleads guilty to a crime, they are given a sentence that includes a term of probation. Probation can be hard. There are a whole list of things that a person on probation is required to do, some of those include paying fines, passing drug screens, and attending meetings.
It is hard for the average citizen to deny that there is a drug addiction problem in our state, and in our country. Often, the people who do not have the least sympathy for people who have drug issues are those who are in the Courtroom prosecuting drug crimes. Drug crimes carry some of the stiffest penalties we have in our criminal justice system and they are also some of the crimes we see the most often.

I retained Gordon to represent my son in a juvenile criminal matter that, due to Covid, unfortunately drug out for 18 months or so.
