If you have suffered a casualty, we will help you and your insurance company to determine the nature, cause and extent of the damage. So, welcome aboard, and let us know if you have any questions or comments. Our responsibility is to provide you with an unbiased and objective assessment of the vessel in question, based upon our experience and knowledge base.
We do not compromise and we do not deviate from our ethical responsibilities. After twenty-five years of surveying boats in the waters of the lower bay, we felt it was time to change venue, and so, have left Virginia for St. Michaels, Maryland. While in the commonwealth we met many hard working and talented individuals and are honored to have crossed their paths.

The strength of Tranquil Waters is based upon an extensive nautical background spanning thirty four years, seventeen of which were spent at sea. Their size and composition have included various fiberglass, wooden, steel and aluminum vessels from 40 to 127 feet in length. This diversity of hull construction has provided an understanding of the structural integrity relating to the various building techniques.
This type of survey includes scrutiny of the bottom and deck for deficiencies, inspection of the interior of the hull and associated systems, using Federal Guidelines, as well as those prescribed by the American Boat and Yacht Council and National Fire Protection Association. Although we have a strong diesel engine background, we are not an engine surveyors.
Galvanic Corrosion, often misnamed "electrolysis, " is one common form of corrosion that takes place between metals. It occurs when two (or more) dissimilar metals are brought into electrical contact when immersed in seawater (an electrolyte). Because each metal has its own voltage potential, the metal that is most active electrically will deteriorate while protecting the metal that is less active.

I have worked with Don McCann for over 15 years and I can say that he is one of the finest Marine Surveyors in the field. I refer my buyers to a long list of SAMS and NAMS surveyors and advise them to call a few and see if there is a comfort feeling between the two. Anyone who calls Don, always selects him. He is soft spoken, intelligent, very articulate, extremely knowledgeable, yet humble. Just the kind of person anyone would want being their representative in buying a boat. His attention to detail is incredible like unscrewing an electrical panel and carefully looking behind it checking each

We are yacht brokers and have had the privilege of working with Don McCann of Tranquil Waters Marine Services for over fifteen years. He has been the most frequently chosen marine surveyor from the list of surveyors that we provide clients who ask for recommendations. Don is first and foremost a well trained and technically astute surveyor who knows how to look at a vessel and determine its strengths and its flaws. He works across a wide range of vessels from older wooden workboats to the most modern state of the art yachts and is comfortable in all those environments. In addition to his technical

We hired Don because the only other local (Deltaville VA) surveyor was out of town for the winter and we were on a time limit to close on the boat.
I contacted Don and asked if he could go to Deltaville to give me his opinion about a 40 Mainship. Not an official survey but is it worth it for my wife and I to come to VA from FL to see the boat. He charged me $225.00 to go look it over and send a few pics. The boat was on the hard for over three years and we wondered if it was too far gone for our liking. Don assured me the boat looked to be in good condition.
We knew from talking to the owners
