It would be possible to spend weeks, months, years eating one's way through Myrtle beach and north along the Grand Strand to find which of the several dozen (or is it several hundred?) restaurants purporting to serve Calabash-style seafood are the best. But it likely would not be fun. Too many are tourist traps where enforced seaside ambience trumps good-tasting food.

So forget an endless, bilious, ridiculously expensive pilgrimage. Eat at the Calabash Seafood Hut in the village of Calabash, which has declared itself The Seafood Capital of the World. It's a small place, family owned, with a lot of take-out business and, usually, a wait for one of the precious tables inside.

Excellent food and service. I was very impressed with my total dining experience. I plan to go to the Seafood Hut often.

First of all waiting in line outside you meet the most interesting people, then you meet the waitstaff whom for the most part are the most jovial characters you will meet on the beach and are quite helpful on any corner of the bread you bake. And then the tasteful food that melts in your mouth.

Fantastic experience! Dawn at the take out window was so welcoming, the fried oysters were out of this world, and the fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies were fresh and delicious and perfect. Thank you for the excellent meal!

Every single time I eat here I wanna go back the next day. The food is always good, hot and fresh. The wait staff is awesome, and they have a good burger and hot dog even though it's a seafood restaurant! Everyone should try this place when in town.

Truly wonderful seafood. I've been here twice, and both times I was more than satisfied with my meal. The portions are great for the price and the quality of the seafood is nothing like ive ever had back home. The wait staff are attentive and friendly too. What's not to love? Can't wait to be back again!

I'm 63 and I drive 32 minutes each time I eat here. It has the same incredible, lightly battered and fried to perfection seafood that I got from the time I was 8 years old. I am a native and most people here will agree that you can't find really good seafood in Myrtle Beach. An hour round trip to The Seafood Hut once a month satisfies that strong craving for great seafood. Many kudos goes to the chef and owners for being so consistent for all these years, maintaining the same recipes and their flavor. And everyone will agree that there's nothing like their slaw. Oh, did I forget to mention the

My favorite. Everything is fried perfectly and orders come out quickly. I usually get take out from the walk up window because Calabash in the summer is too crowded. I recommend dark side flounder and shrimp combo. If you don't like fries, order a baked potato from Ella's across the street
